Guest guest Posted March 24, 2010 Report Share Posted March 24, 2010 Bihar: PAHAL Observed World TB Day at Kamla Nehru Nagar Slum Local Voluntary organization working for the health awareness of the masses, Public Awareness for Healthful Approach for Living (PAHAL), organised TB Awareness Nukkad Natak at the densely populated Kamla Nehru Nagar Slum today. Addressing the gathering, Medical Director of PAHAL, Dr Diwakar Tejaswi informed that in India and Bihar about 40% of population are having the TB infection and about 2-3% are having active TB disease. More than 70% of AIDS patients in Bihar have TB co infection at one point of time or other. Dr Tejaswi expressed his concern over the rising number of Multi Drug Resistance (MDR) TB and Extensively Drug Resistant (XDR) TB which are life threatening. He informed the slum dwellers that if anyone is having more than 2 weeks of cough, evening rise of temperature, loss of weight, loss of appetite, cough with chest pain and hemoptysis he or she should go to nearest health center and get his free sputum test done at Govt. Hospital. Free Anti TB Medication is also available at government hospitals under DOTS programme in Bihar.
