Guest guest Posted March 12, 2010 Report Share Posted March 12, 2010 Dear friends, Our organisation-Liberal Association for Movement of People(LAMP) has been successfully involved with the empowerment process of the poor and oppressed especially women and children in 8 states of India, since 1978, for we have recieved National and State Awards. In course of our involvement, we have been also successfully undertaking the following activities in the fields of HIV/AIDS prevention and care and support programme. Our organisation-LAMP has been very much active in the fields of HIV/AIDS prevention and Reduction of HIV/AIDS related stigma and discrimination in various states of India. Moreover, LAMP has been running a Residential Home for 100 children at risk infected/affected with HIV/AIDS, at Kalyanpur, Sonamukhi, Bankura, West Bengal, India. The details of our activities in the fields of HIV/AIDS are as follows: 1.HIV/AIDS prevention programme among the Commercial Sex Workers and their clients, in six areas- Jalpool, Canning and Ghutiary Shariff of South 24 Pgs. District; Saheed Nagar of Kolkata district; and Champadanga and Tarakeswar of Hooghly district, in the state of West Bengal. Commercial Sex Workers and their clients and family members About 4,500 Commercial sex workers of six areas. # Running awareness generation through focus group discussions, walling and street corners etc. among the FSWs and their clients in 3 brothels (Canning, Ghutiary Shariff and Champadanga ) and hotels at Tarakeswar; # Running medical support programme to the FSWs and their family members in 3 brothels ( Canning, Ghutiary Shariff and Champadanga ) and hotels at Tarakeswar; and 2 residential areas of the FSWs; # Running educational( 4 non-formal primary schools) and cultural action programmes among the FSWs and their children in 3 brothels ( Canning, Ghutiary Shariff and Champadanga ) and hotels at Tarakeswar; # Running Condoms promotion and marketing programme among the FSWs and their clients in 3 brothels (Canning, Ghutiary Shariff and Champadanga ) and hotels at Tarakeswar; # Organising and running 45 grassroots level Self-Help Groups(SHGs) as the organizations of the FSWs and their leadership and capacity building programme in 3 brothels ( Canning, Ghutiary Shariff and Champadanga ) and hotels at Tarakeswar, under the banner of the LAMP Micro Finance and Livelihood Development Programme; # Organising and strengthening 6 grassroots level organizations of the FSWs and their leadership and capacity building programme in 3 brothels ( Canning, Ghutiary Shariff and Champadanga ) and hotels at Tarakeswar and 2 residential areas of the FSWs, under the banner of the " BINODINI MAHILA SANGRAM SAMANNAYA SAMITY(BMSSS); # Supporting the Central Network of 4 grassroots level organizations of the FSWs and their leadership and capacity building programme of the " BINODINI MAHILA SANGRAM SAMANNAYA SAMITY(BMSSS) and extending their activities in other brothels of five states ( West Bengal, Jharkhand, Orissa, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh) of LAMP's involvement ; # campaigning in favour of the human rights of the FSWs throughout India, with the support of all Political Parties and Civil Society organizations. 2. Reduction of stigma and discrimination through socio-cultural action groups and self-help groups, supported by the UNDP through the NACO. Women & men living with HIV/AIDS, of West Bengal, Orissa, Jharkhand States.2000 HIV + women and men and One million people of three states# Organize behaviours change and social change communication through counselling, establishing human/women's rights among the HIV/AIDS infected and affected persons and organize media campaigns, for sensitization of people to prevent and reduce stigma and discrimination against HIV/AIDS; # Formation of 100 Self-Help Groups among 2,000 HIV+ persons and supporting them with technical and financial support for strengthening their livelihood. 3.Home for children infected / affected by HIV+, supported by the MAC AIDS Fund. Children infected / affected by HIV+100 boys and girls infected/affected with HIV/AIDS. Started the home at Kalyanpur, Sonamukhi, Bankura with 20 children in 2010. 4. Exploring sponsorship for providing second line drugs and other supports to the poor AIDS patients facing resistance to first line drugs, with the support of All India Association of Voluntary Agencies. The critical patients will be recommended by the Networks of PLWHA and primary target is to provide these supports to 1000 most critical poor AIDS patients especially children from different parts of India. Selection process of critical poor AIDS patients is started and their details would be uploaded in the websites, for getting sponsorship from different parts of the world. Positive peoples' networks and renowned personalities are involved in this programme. Considering the above, we request you kindly to circulate this mail to all your members, so that we would get needy Children infected/affected with HIV/AIDS, who can be accomodated at our " Kalyandeep Home " . If necessary, we would take necessary steps to establish new " Residential Care Homes " for the needy children with HIV/AIDS, in any part of India. We also expect technical, monitoring and all kinds of support from the NACO, the Action Aid and other supportive organisations especially the PLWHA organisations, to successfully implement the above activities.
