Guest guest
Samagra Community Care centre, Samagra CCC “public“ private partnership model housed in Sri Narasimha Raja district Hospital, Kolar is the first of its kind in the country. Kolar is one of the HIV high prevalent districts of Karnataka, and the people infected had to depend mainly on the district hospital for their treatment. But the hospital did not have sufficient amenities to meet their specific needs ,and there was no CCC in place, therefore many of them had to move to Bangalore for treatment and care. In 2008 KHPT, came up with an innovative idea of beginning a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model Community Care Centre (CCC) within the district hospital as the hospital has sufficient infrastructure to accommodate a CCC as well as enough recourses that needs to be utilized. KHPT started exploring the possibilities meeting with the higher authorities and the permission was obtained. Meanwhile KHPT also identified Sneha Charitable Trust-an experienced hand, as the NGO partner to run the CCC. Thus on 26th February 2009 Samagra CCC was opened with 15 beds in two wards, the male ward with 8 beds, and the female ward with 7 beds. The medical care is provided by the government hospital and outreach work, supplementary nutrition, psycho-social counselling services and nursing care are executed by NGO. The other specialty services like gynaecology, surgery, medicine, psychiatry, and orthopaedics and paediatrics is provided by the in-house medical team. Samagra CCC render services in line with NACO(National AIDS control Organization) CCC guidelines to improve the quality of life of PLHIVs. Unlike other CCCs, Samagra is using the infrastructural facilities available and provided by the District Hospital making it a Unique CCC model. Availability of speciality services enables us to take care of patients in 3rd and 4th stage with major OIs. The presence of the ART centre, ICTC, DOTS etc under the same roof makes the services easier and faster. Patients avail, free of charge all the services that are available within the hospital. The presence of the CCC in the district hospital has a positive influence on the other departments and has slowly seen their cooperation and association with the CCC. This is a paradigm shift from the earlier opposing attitudes of some of the health care staff. The DAPCU officer, and the District Surgeons play a key role supporting us in all the possible ways, and are keen that we render quality service. Almost after one and a half year of our presence at SNR, another room with 5 beds is given to us admit HIV/ TB co-infected patients. No now the total bed capacity being 20. So far we were able to cater to 480 new inpatients, we were able to counsel the partners / other family members of the inpatients, do 98% partner testing as well as their children. We did not just limit our services to just medical care but we went a step forward and were able to provide books, uniforms shoes etc to 80 affected and infected children with the help of sensitive and generous persons who supported us in cash and kind. Samagra Community Care Centre on August 26th 2010 completes one and a half year of its service to the people living with HIV/AIDS of the district of Kolar. Coordinator Sr. Bridget Philip.
