World Vision Kolkata HIV/AIDS Project in collaboration with North Kolkata ADP conducted Three Days GIPA Training For PLHIV at Hotel Presidency Inn, Kolkata, on 16-18 Aug 2010. The Programme was held with the objective to empower PLHIV towards GIPA. Members representing from District level Networks and State level Network attended the workshop Some of the capacity building needs highlighted are:- Media approach training Communication Training Self Help Group Training Documentation Training Treatment Literacy and adherence Positive Prevention. Stigma and discrimnation from all sectors among the PLHIV was also seen as another factor that was heavily discussed. The key guests for the consultation included:- Mr. Pallob Bhattacharya, Joint Director, SACS Members from Bengal Network of Positive People living with HIV/AIDS (BNP +) Members from Kolkota Network of Positive People living with HIV/AIDS (KNP+) World Vision national office World Vision Kolkata HIV/AIDS project, Area Developemt Programme (ADP) Kolkata World Vision. Economic suppport and stigma and discrimination faced by PLHIV in their family and health set up are the crucial point which need to be addressed’. Quotes -Mrs. Daisy, PLHIV Advocacy Corodinator, World Vision. ‘surgical system is a major problem for PLHIV in the State.’ Quotes Mr. Kishore, president Bengal Network of Positive People (BNP+). ‘State scheme for the welfare of women are not aware which is essential for the women living with HIV/AIDS (WLHIV) to avail the service’. Quotes Ms. Farzana, Board member INP+. With the above capacity expectations my concern lies here within is when and who are going to take the initative for grassroot PLHIV irrespective of high/low prevelance (people are migrating) to be really empowered. (Training provided by CBOs, Networks, NGOs are limited due to funding and prevlance factor.) Thanks, Daisy , Network, Advocacy Coordinator World Vision. e-mail: <daisy_david@...>
