Job Title: Regional Advocacy Coordinator

Position Description:

The Regional Advocacy Coordinator will be responsible for representing NFI

Regional Office on social and policy advocacy initiatives, and working closely

with UNDP HIV Policy Advisor, UNDP Asia and Pacific, along with NFI's country

partners in the implementation of a range of policy advocacy initiatives in

regard to the Community strengthening, reducing vulnerability, and minimising

risk of the further spread of HIV for men who have sex with men and transgender

populations in South Asia GFATM Project.

Summary of responsibilities:

• Working and liaising with the UNDP Regional Office (along with UNDP country

offices in South Asia), along with NFI's country partners, to develop and

implement an advocacy strategy in line with the objectives and work plan of the

GFATM South Asia project.

• Provide advocacy assistance to the National MSM and AIDS Task Forces in India

and Bangladesh, support the development of similar organisations in Nepal,

Pakistan and Sri Lanka, and work with NFI's country partners in supporting their

advocacy initiatives.

• To promote NFI's advocacy goals regionally and internationally.

• Represent NFI and its advocacy and policy initiatives at a range of meetings,

workshops and conferences.

• Develop a range of advocacy and policy documents, knowledge resources,

reports, and capacity strengthening tools appropriate to the needs of MSM,

transgender and sexual health in South Asia.

• Ensures broad dissemination of NFI's advocacy and policy documents.

Skills and qualifications required:

• Demonstrable knowledge and experience of working with MSM, transgender and

sexual health issues in a South Asia country on policy and advocacy issues.

• Should have an in-depth knowledge of issues, needs and concerns as they

pertain to social and policy advocacy needs of MSM, transgenders and sexual

health in the South Asia region.

• Should be a graduate in law from a recognised university. Preference shall be

given to candidates who have any relevant additional professional degree or

degree in social sciences.

• Should have necessary linkages with UNAIDS, UNDP, and other national and

international HIV/AIDS support agencies in South Asia.

• Has proven self-management skills and maintaining deadlines, yet is able to

work as a part of a team.

• Excellent English with report writing, computer and media experience.

Will report to the Regional Project Director.

Remuneration:

Salary package will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, and

budgetary requirements.
