Dear Forum,

VOLUNTARY BLOOD DONATION DAY OBSERVED BY GSA:

As it does every year, the Global Science Academy (GSA) by collaborating with

the District AIDS Coordination Committee (DACC), Basti marked Voluntary Blood

Donation Day, October 1 (2010), with programmes that not only intended to raise

awareness amongst masses but also people belonged to GSA have voluntarily

donated blood on this pious occasion.

The GSA, for massive distribution, had brought out an IEC (Information Education

& Communication) material in Hindi titled, Raktadan, ek Jivandan which

contained detailed information on the subject ranging from places for voluntary

blood donation, important facts pertaining to blood donation, benefits of blood

donation and FAQ (frequently asked questions) as well.

Simultaneously, the same platforms were used for making people aware about the

AIDS pandemic by distributing another GSA developed IEC on HIV/AIDS & STI.

The Voluntary Blood Donation (VBD) related activities of the district were well

planned and the District Magistrate (DM) Mr. Pankaj Kumar presided over a

work-plan meeting in this context on 27th of October 2010 which was attended by

district health administration including Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr.

Rajendra Kumar, Senior District Tuberculosis Officer (DTO) Dr. O. P. Singh,

Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) Dr. O. P. Parikh, GSA’s executive body

members including Director Dr. Anil Pratap Singh its targeted intervention (TI)

project staff and others.

Further, CMO called upon a departmental meeting to strategize various VBD

activities which also attended by GSA.

A debate competition on “Raktadan ka Mahatva†(-Importance of Blood

Donation) was organized on 29th September 2010 by the Global Science Academy

(GSA) at Government Girls Inter Collage (GGIC), Basti where nearly two dozen

students took part in the competition while the event was enthusiastically

attended by approx. two hundred students.

The debate programme was presided over by the Director of the Global Science

Academy (GSA) Dr. Anil Pratap Singh. Mrs. Vimla Srivastava Principal GGIC was

the guest of honor during the occasion while from amongst the jury Ms. Madhuri

Srivastava, Mrs. Reeta Srivastava, Mrs. Geeta Khari and Mrs. Santosh Singh

lauded the efforts of GSA towards the cause of humanity.

The names of Ms. Amina Khatun, Ms. Ritu Suri and Ms. Preeti Chaudhary were

emerged for First, Second and Third prizes towards recognizing their talent for

debate competition in a separate event which was planned at the District

Tuberculosis Hospital, Basti on 30th September 2010.

In a seminar, held at the District Tuberculosis Hospital, CMO Dr. Rajendra Kumar

said that the DACC was organized the event by having collaboration of GSA and

others. DTO Dr. O.P. Singh, GSA Director Dr. A. P. Singh, PO-TI Mr. P.K. Patra

and others expressed their opinion on the occasion.

Later, for debate competition Ms. Amina Khatun, Ms. Ritu Suri and Ms. Preeti

Chaudhary etc. have received shields and certificates duly signed by CMO, DTO

and GSA Director.

On Voluntary Blood Donation Day (VBD), at Blood Bank of the District Hospital,

Basti, there happened a total of seven donations (blood) out of which four

belonged to GSA.

On behalf of the GSA, Mr. Sita Ram Singh, Mr. Jitendra Kumar, Mr. Irfan and Mr.

Shyam Sundar Chaudhary had voluntarily donated blood to achieve the noble cause.

The VBD event was formally inaugurated by the District Magistrate (DM) Mr.

Pankaj Kumar.

Those who were present include CMO, DTO, PO-TI, GSA Director, CMS, NGOs,

journalists from local media (- print and electronic both), social workers and

others. Electronic media also covered interview of GSA Director on VBD which

later aired to reach wider audiences.

GSA has also plan to be part of VBD campaign during the month of October, 2010.
