Guest guest
Dear , Sadhana and other Group members, Re: /messages#n=messages & c=message%2F\ 12113 & p=0 & v=t%3D0 There is an excellent care program for the HIV infected children (CLHIV) in Bangalore (run by the Camillian priests) called the *Sneha Care Home*, assiciated to Snehadaan CCC. Started in 2008 with 20 infected kids, now the program is taking care of 85 children (by providing a comprehensive care package) of which majority of the children are single or double orphans. The centre is functioning in close collaboration with NACO, KHPT and KSAPS. It has now become a model program cum Learning Site that offers professional support to those in the same field. Kindly visit our website in the following link for more details. http://www.snehacare.org/snehacarehome_bangalore.html Thank you Mr. Bobby Prog Coordr Sneha Charitable Trust e-mail: <bobbythomas82@...>
Guest guest
Dear Chezhian, Re: /messages#n=messages & c=message%2F\ 12113 & p=0 & v=t%3D0 I completely agree with you as it carry stigma and make children very uncomfortable. How about calling them " Children's Nest " or " Anand Ghar " or " Mamta Ghar " . Just a few suggestions. Guest guest
Dear J.CHEZHIAN and the forum, Re: /messages#n=messages & c=message%2F\ 12120 & p=0 & v=t%3D0 When an emotion behind a word is treated with helplessness then it sounds stigmatizing. Its a good idea to change the term to something which sounds more empowering. I would suggest to call such kind of centers as " support homes " or " Incubation homes " or " Incubation center " instead of orphanages or parentless. I believe, that every individual, whether with parents or Parentless, needs an Incubation cell where they are provided an environment which helps them to stimulate their true potential to their best. Therefore according to me " Orphanage " term can be replaced by " Incubation Center " also. Guest guest
Dear Sadhna, Re: /messages#n=messages & c=message%2F\ 12113 & p=0 & v=t%3D0 Way back in 2008, there was a call by NACO for Community Care Centres for Children. They were to open 10 such centres throughout India. I recently filed an RTI application to seek information on those centres. I was replied that 6 NGOs are running such centres. See the list below: Sivananda Rehabilitation Centre, AP Kukatpally, Rangareddy District, Hyderabad Damian Leprosy Centre, AP Vegavaram, Gopannapalem, West Godavari Mannavya CCC, MH 46/3/1, Laxman Villa, Flat No. 13, Paud Road, Pune Naz Foundation India Trust, Delhi A-86, NEast of Kailash, New Delhi St. Annes Care Centre, TN P. Box. 8, Tirunagar, Madurai Social Awareness and Service Organization, Manipur Uripok Sinam Leikai, Imphal It would be interesting to know from the forum, whether these centres are still supported by NACO and are still functioning F. Guest guest
Dear Sadhna, Re: /messages#n=messages & c=message%2F\ 12113 & p=0 & v=t%3D0 There is a community care center at Tirunelveli, Tamilnadu exclusively for children infected with HIV and Children born to HIV parents orphan or semi-orphan run by HOPE Foundation International, with the support of Tamilnadu State AIDS Control Society in turn by NACO. It has the facility to accommodate 50 children. Now more than 45 children are being cared. Facility for good food, accommodation, medical and treatment facility ( link to nearby ART center)study, schooling, educational tour, extracurricular activities etc. It is successfully functioning for past two and half years. It has restored many children back home to their close relatives.Initially TANSACS allowed them to keep them up to 14 years, now they have extended up to 18 years. Even after this age these children are restored to some other home or orphanages as the HOPE Foundation International has the facility in other places. I think similar community care centers are running in Tamilnadu with the help of TANSACS in other two more places. This is for your kind information. Guest guest
Dear Forum members, Orphanage can be replaced by Home for the Children/ Home Away from Home or Home for the Needy, because all the services provided to them are in par with Home services, hence I would like to suggest the above three names, any one name from the three will be a good replacement. Its the duty of every person to give a second thinking before giving a name to the institution, by seeing the name, the children who are joining the centre and their parents or guardians, who have come to join them should feel good and relieved, rather than feeling sad or depressed by the name itself.
