Population Council invites competent individuals to work on a five-year project funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that aims at strengthening national capacity to maximize the generation, documentation and dissemination of HIV programmatic learnings from the Avahan program's up-scaled HIV prevention interventions with female sex workers, self-identified men who have sex with men and clients of sex workers including trucker populations.

TITLE: Senior Program Officer (Scientific Writer)

REPORTING TO: Project Director

LOCATION: New Delhi

ASSIGNMENT LENGTH: Four years - annually renewable by mutual consent and subject to availability of funding

Job Description:

The incumbent will support the documentation activities through scientific editing and content reading of reports, monographs, research articles and case studies. The incumbent will serve as the lead person in guiding the individuals from partner institutions on scientific writing and review the manuscripts for appropriateness, and interpretation.

Job Responsibilities:

• Guide the individuals on scientific writing; interact with partner institutions, scientists, program managers and establishing a network of

experts who can mentor individuals on documentation;

• Provide editorial support for the HIV and AIDS program projects;

• Meet with colleagues to plan the content of a document;

• Conduct reference searches;

• Attending meetings or taking part in conference calls for discussions with writing professionals;

• Coordinating with journal editors for publication of articles developed as part of the project;

• Occasionally reading page proofs from printers and checking colour proofs;

• Networking and building relationships with various institutions interested to work with the project on documentation and analyses of the

data.

Qualifications:

• Advanced degree in social science, public health or equivalent with specialization in public health and/or epidemiology. Additional post-graduate training in HIV or other communicable diseases would be an

advantage.

• Prior work experience with HIV related studies, out of which at least 5

years’ experience in drafting/editing scientific paper for peer-reviewed journals.

• Excellent writing skills

• Proven publication and/or scientific editing record

• Ability to work independently as well as a demonstrated capacity to function as a member of a team.

• Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment

• Ability to maintain favorable public relations
