[Editors comment: I am flabbergasted by reading this statement ascribed to

Justice Ms. Sheela Khanna!, if this statement is true, MP government should

dismiss Justice Ms. Sheela Khanna from the post of Child Rights Commission.

Right to health is a fundamental right of each and every child. As the MP State

Commission for Protection of Child Rights, her main duty is to protect each and

every child. By this statement she absolved herself from her duties as the MP

State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. It is unfortunate, this

statement comes from a senior judicial officer of this country !?

We request Prof. Shantha Sinha, the Chair person of the National Commission for

Protection of Child Rights, immediately to constitute an enquiry into this

statement and if found true, Justice Ms. Sheela Khanna must be removed from the

post of MP State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. Readers are

requested to send similar letters to Prof. Shantah Sinha Chairperson of NCPCR.

Justice Ms. Sheela Khanna, chairperson of MP State Commission for Protection of

Child Rights, in Oct 2010 suggested to appoint a Brahmin priest in each

Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre. The priest would verify horoscope of every

child in NRC & if he opines that the child will grow into a good citizen, it

must be provided treatment. For rest she says to leave them to their fate as

govt cannot spend money on them.....

" It is true that too many children die from malnutrition each year in this

country. Some of their parents also die from starvation and hunger. But the

children are more vulnerable … one of the reasons is the widespread

'irregularity' in the state and central government services … the Chief Minister

of Madhya Pradesh state is a very kind person … the Nutrition Rehabilitation

Centres is not a solution for the millions of malnourished children. These

centres are not cost effective. But now that the centres are there we must

effectively use them. My suggestion is to appoint a Brahmin priest in each of

these centres and require the priest to verify the horoscope of every child

brought to the centre. After studying a child's horoscope if the priest is of

the opinion that the child will grow into a good citizen of this country, it

must be provided treatment at the centre. For the rest, I would say, let us just

leave them to their fate … if not where do we stop? … We cannot spend government

money like this… "

(Statement and opinion of Justice Ms. Sheela Khanna, the Chairperson of Madhya

Praesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, made to the AHRC staff

members during a visit to the Commission in October 2010).

Dear Professor Shanta Sinha,

Even Mother did not ask what religion her clients were, in Nirmal

Hryiday.

What gives Justice Khanna the right to feed a little 'spirituality', before

nutrition?

She should be sent an official letter from the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh

forbidding such practice.

Thank you,

Sincerely,

Priyadarshi Datta, Ph.d., PLWA.
