Dear Forum Members,

Sub:     Leadership Development programme for women and girls living with HIV

in India.

As we look forward to the HIV / AIDS prevention and control programme from the

communities’ perspective, it becomes extremely important for the development

of more and more leaders from the community who can lead people towards their

rights and also who could join hand with NACO / SACS of their respective states

and strengthen their efforts towards better results.

At Positive Women Network (PWN+), we are striving hard to strengthen communities

that are oppressed due to their infection status and also who are stigmatized

and discriminated for decades due to this infection.

To strengthen our initiatives PWN+ with support from UNDP is planning to develop

a team of leaders from the women and girls infected with HIV. They will be

selected from the following states of India:

These leaders will be provided professional leadership training by PWN+ and

UNDP.  This training will be done in two phases of five days each, with specific

assignments between those two.  The first training will be in December 2010 and

the second training in Feb / March 2011.

This leadership training programme is designed with women and girls living with

HIV at its centre, and the full involvement of other key stakeholders including

government, civil society, the private sector and people living with HIV/AIDS.

Participants will be encouraged to focus their breakthrough initiatives / action

learning project in the following key areas:

a. economic security and livelihood opportunities and removing barriers

to women’s equal economic empowerment

accessible, of high quality and delivered with dignity

their families, communities, organizations and country and foster mobility that
