HIV-infected person charged in sex abuse case dies in Goa

A HIV positive man charge-sheeted for sexually abusing a 14-year old boy and

infecting him with the disease died today at Goa medical college and hospital,

authorities stated.

D'Souza was charge-sheeted for sexually abusing the boy for three months in

2008.

Jail authorities confirmed that , who was admitted to the Goa medical

college and hospital, died today.

Since he was in the judicial custody when he died, Sub divisional magistrate

would enquire into his death.

The accused was arrested in November 2008 after the child's father complained to

the police. It was also subsequently revealed that the boy was also carrying HIV

virus.

was initially given bail by Goa children's court. But the state filed an

appeal in the high court that quashed children's court order and asked the

paedophile to appear before the investigating team.

He surrendered on November 25 and was put behind bars pending trial.
