Guest guest
Greetings from AARTH ASTHA! We are an organization working on the rights of persons with disabilities. We work across disabilities and believe that every person no matter how severely disabled has the right to live with dignity. We run a Centre for Children with Special Needs, Community Based Rehabilitation Project, The National Trust Helpline - Abiline and the Disability and Information Resource Centre. As a part of the Resource Centre we run a library that houses publications, CDS, reports, assistive devices and many more materials, we do research and advocacy as well as prepare and disseminate publications and information related to disabilities and rights. We also conduct training sessions and workshops with various stakeholders as a part of our initiatives of advocacy at the Resource Centre. As you may be aware that the Persons with Disabilities Act is being redrafted, by the Committee that was appointed by the Government. This committee further formed sub-committees who have met over the past few months to discuss the contents of various chapters. The chapters of the Act range from definitions, roles and responsibilities of the State to the rights of people with disabilities. We expect first draft of the Act to be ready by the 20th of this month, therefore, we take this opportunity to discuss our rights under this new Act and also provide our feedback to some of the sub-committee members. We believe that as people with disabilities it is a right to be heard especially when the law concerns the everyday lives therefore, we shall be organizing a two-day workshop in Delhi on November 29 and 30 at Action for Ability Development and Inclusions (AADI), New Delhi . We shall be talking about some of the rights as persons with disabilities and how the new Act will enable us to access them. This forum will also provide the space to voice concerns and opinions regarding the new Act and its contents and the opportunity to provide feedback and suggestions regarding the Act. We shall be arranging for accommodation and reimbursing travel for participants from Rajasthan or Uttar Pradesh. We welcome participants with disabilities and women. However, we have limited space for participants; therefore, do send us your confirmations by email or by calling us at any of the admin numbers provided below. Please do circulate widely to your networks as well Warmly, ine ine Gomes Asst.
