HIV-positive level in Amritsar has risen to 6.88 per cent

The Department of Life Science of BBK DAV College for Women organised a lecture

on HIV-AIDS by Dr Pushpa Devi, head of the Department of Microbiology,

Government Medical College, Amritsar, on Tuesday. She spoke extensively about

it, from symptoms to treatment. " HIV I virus is more prevalent in India as

compared to HIV II, which is usually found in China. The number of HIV Positive

patients has risen to 6.88 per cent in

Amritsar. Its major symptoms include 10 per cent reduction in body weight and

simple infections, " she said. Dr Pushpa also talked about anti-retro viral

treatment, which is available for HIV Positive patients. Rashmi Kalia, HoD,

Science, BBK DAV College, too, spoke on the occasion.
