Editor, AIeF] www.asicon2010.com www.aidssocietyofindia.com Hyderabad, Oct 29 : The rate of HIV prevalence in Andhra Pradesh is among the highest in the country, Chief Minister K iah today said. Inaugurating the three-day national conference of AIDS Society of India (ASICON 2010) here, he said however, as the state government was taking steps for the past few years, the prevalence rate of HIV-AIDS has come down drastically. He said about 80,000 people living with HIV-AIDS were now being provided free medical treatment, every month in the state. He said the state government will set up an Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) centre in Vijayawada soon to cater to the coastal districts and was planning to extend all other facilities to those living with HIV-AIDS in the state. Minister for Health D Nagender said the state government under the leadership of Mr iah was giving top priorioty for the health sector by earmarking about Rs 4,300 crore in the current budget. President of AIDS Society of India Dr J K Maniar, Vice-President Dr R R Gangakhedkar and Secretary General I S Gilada also participated in the conference. ASICON 2010 will focus on optimal, efficient and comprehensive HIV management.
