Something that works on lesions

I'm a lurker to this group, but I do read a lot of the messages.

I have PA (maybe); I was diagnosed with RA (maybe) until the dr. saw

the psoriasis lesions on my elbows, knees, knuckles and on some of my

toes.

Sometimes the lesions are so bad that all I have to do is scratch it

lightly, and they start bleeding.

I was using OTC cortizone cream (rec. by crummy rheumy I no longer

see.) The cream works. Sometimes. Not lately.

One of my friends has a baby with baby dermatitis. She used this OTC

ointment, Aquaphor, on her child, and the dermatitis disappeared

overnight.

I figured it couldn't hurt to try it. Well, guess what? The silver

flakes and itch are gone! And slowly, the huge, angry red marks are

disappearing.

I've no idea why this works or if it'll work for anyone else, or for

that matter, if it'll keep working. I just know that I put it on a few

times a day, the lesions don't itch (thank God!), I'm not scratching,

and they're all healing.

Aquaphor isn't that cheap for an OTC ointment, so if anyone wants to

try this,, get the smallest size to see if it works for you.

I post in the hopes that maybe this might help someone.

Hi! I also use Aquaphor, several times a day, on my soles. It

doesn't clear up my P but it certainly soothes it greatly. It is a

very pure petroleum jelly. Sometimes I slather it on my feet, slip

each one into a plastic bag and then slip my socks on over the bags.

After an hour, my thickened areas are much softened and not so likely

to crack and bleed. Less painful.

I also use it on dry lips and nose sores.

I buy it in the one pound tub (not quite a pound, actually 14 ounces)

for about $15 at my local drugstore. Ask about buying it in bulk

like this - it's cheaper. They may have to order it for you, but

they will.

Aquaphor is made by Eucerin. I've reduced my Triamcinolone ointment

(expensive steriod) from twice daily to once daily and use the

Aquaphor 2-3 times a day instead.

Thanks for reminding everyone about this inexpensive OTC soother!

I used to be a lifeguard and the chlorine would wreak havoc on my feet. My heels

would be cracked and incredibly dry and sore. Another guard said that her

grandmother swore by a mix of glaxal base and aquaphor. I no longer guard or

teach swimming but I continue to use both of the above and my feet are soft and

smooth. I never thought of it for psoriasis lesions but it certainly wouldn't do

any harm. All I know is that it works wonders on feet.

I am newly diagnosed with what is still a mild case of psoriatic arthritis and

this online group is a gem. I learn more with every post I read. I am wondering

if I am unique in this problem??? My thumb seemed to slip out of joint several

days ago and my first reaction was to just grab it and give a tug. It went back

into place and I simply thought it was weird. This morning I woke up and the end

joint of my little right finger was hurting+++and I could hardly move it. Again

a tug and it went back into place with a nasty noise I must say. The pain

immediately went away and all I was left with was a tender joint. Have any of

you had this experience? Why would this happen? Any theories are welcomed...

Hi June,

I used to be a lifeguard! (basking in warm memories). I was also

recently diagnosed with PA, earlier in the summer anyway. Time has a

way of slipping by. I am/was/try to continue to be a massage therapist

and I also have the joint slippage in my thumbs. It has stopped me in

the middle of my work. It has also happened with my index fingers and

baby digits. I just thought it was because my work is hard on my hands.

I am on MTX and my nail changes have halted, I go easy on my hands (or

try to... what is easy?). I am very gentle when I work the joint back

into place so I don't cause damage. If you hear a cracking sound, it's

just gas (excuse me!) from the joint and not to worry. More nasty

sounds than that... hmmm I'd go easy there.

I knew I should have insured these babys years ago!
