Guest guest
Dear Forum, Re: /message/12347 Thanks to Krishna and Suraksha for bringing to light the biased and opinionated way the AP government has acted. It once again brings out emphatically how governments can bow to pressures from religious minorities just to keep their vote banks intact – forget its impact on people, especially the sexuality minorities. I feel it is time for community action through appropriate representation to the new Chief Minister of AP as well as coming together through rallies and voicing concerns and using media pressure. I saw the video clipping of NDTV and one of the MLAs categorically states that the minorities welfare department is a religious dept to cater to needs of religious minorities. Interestingly the AP government’s official site does not use the word “religion†or “religious†in the objectives and purpose of the formation of the minorities welfare department. So we assume it is for religious minorities just because it has been catering to that segment! Minorities Welfare The Department of Minorities Welfare was created in the year 1993. The primary objective of the Department is socio economic development and educational advancement of minorities in the State. The main functions of the Department are as follows: Introduce schemes to promote accelerated socio economic development of minorities Introduce educational concessions for students of minority communities Implement schemes for development of women and children of minority communities Provide training and employment opportunities, thereby tackling the problem economic backwardness among minorities Provide guidance to those in the minority communities wanting to set up entrepreneurial ventures Introduce a comprehensive scheme for coaching students of minority communities, thereby helping them improve their performance in competitive exams Source: www.aponline.gov.in/apportal/departments/portallistoforgsbydepts.aspx?i=3 Dear members of Suraksha – please garner support from all within AP as well as outside in your fight. Maybe start an online signature campaign so that many who support the cause have an opportunity to express solidarity with Suraksha.
