Guest guest
Yes, and now read the book " The Road Back " by Henry Scammell. It will tell you why many people have switched from arthritis medicine to antibiotics. I have and the three months I have been on antibiotics have helped me to start feeling better. Guest guest
Eva, Care to share what type of antibiotics this is and how did you manage to convince your physician to try this? nne
Guest guest
Hi nne, my pulmonary doctor realized that I had a problem with my sinus and prescribed Biaxin 500 mg twice a day and the doctor (new) I went to for my arthritis prescribed Ketoconazole 200 mg (this is an anti fungal antibiotic) once a day. My sinus was so bad and with the fungus in my sinus system and also on my hands plus PsA it was a mess.I was spending almost all day in bed. My pulmonary and arthritis doctor both belief this needs to be a long series of antibiotics because any other way I will end up in the hospital again. There was no convincing necessary, Thank God. I am doing so much better without the arthritis meds which I had to stop forever. I am going now to Occupational and Physical Therapy three times a week to build up the muscles I lost and straighten my hands out.It is a slow going but as long as I am persistent about these therapies I know I will get well. My hands look a loot better and almost no sores. Hurray for that. The Therapist made me get Aquaphore and put it on my hands very thick and then put vinyl gloves on for an hour. It helps a lot to soften the skin and loosen the dead skin. My scalp is still a mess but I have to figure out what to do about that or what to use. What State do you live in? I am in Texas. Take care, stay well. Eva
Guest guest
Eva -- I use Olux on my scalp and also for my ears. It works quite well, esp if you apply it when your hair is wet (ie, after shower or hair washing). It takes away the itch and gets rid of the scales (at least for me!). I also use Clobestol cream for the rest of my patches, which is actually related to the Olux. I have noticed, and there has actually been some research done re: improvements while on antibiotics. I don't recall that they've found any particular scientific rationale for it though. What arthritis meds were you on? biologics? Hope this helps. If you'd like to correspond more, please feel free to also email me directly. I am not always online checking everyday, so I apologize up front if it takes me a day or two to respond! Cheryl M. Guest guest
Based on this message I was able to locate a Road Back Foundation that has a lot more information on their website about antibiotic therapy, history, problems/issues w/mainstream med docs, and links. It focuses on rheumatoid arthritis, but also recognizes its use throughout rheumatics, so it may be a helpful resource for people wanting to explore more. Cheryl M. Guest guest
Eva, Let me get this straight---you are not on any arthritis meds now? Just antibiotics? I have no infections and I guarantee my rheumy will not agree to give me huge doses of antibiotics. Do you know of any studies or documentation of any kind I could find that might be convincing? BTW I live in FLA and have had PA 3 yrs now, before that I was a women's lightweight bodybuilding competitor.... big change for me. I have met only one other young woman with PA who lives here in Tampa, very difficult to deal with this with all the weight society places on appearances, especially with my background. In ref to your scalp, I use diluted witch hazel-may sound unorthodox but I tell you it stops all itching and I have no active patches on my scalp since I started it, about 6 mos ago. A lady in my rheumy's waiting room told me about it....worth a try? let me know nne
Guest guest
Hi nne, Get the book " The Road Back " by Henry Scammell and read it (Amazon.com). Also you can go on the internet and type in: " Rheumatoid Arthritis and Antibiotics " . There are many Dr.'s out there that treat people with various antibiotics. You can also go to " Arthritis Trust.com " and find out info. and there are lots of Dr.'s on that site. I take Biaxin 500 mg daily and have done well. I have a few friends that have gone into remission and have stayed there for years, they doing all the things they wanted to do again. I feel a lot better. Just got back from a ten day trip to CA. I live in Houston, TX. did a lot of fun things with my husbands family on a reunion. No, I am not on arthritis meds anymore. My new Dr. told me it will take a year before all the Prednisone is out of my system. My skin is still very thin and I got the worst sunburn on my hands on this trip, but I have healed up real fast with Aquaphore and cotton gloves. In the mean time I am doing phys. & occupational. therapy to ge my strength back I became so weak from all this arthritis meds that I could hardly walk 1/2 a mile a day. I am doing at least 4 miles now every day. Thank you for the tip on the witch hazel, I will give it a try. Take care, stay positive and get well (it's a long road). Eva P.S. let me know if you want to talk to me and I will give you my phone# (privately). Eva
