Guest guest
Has anyone had a reclast infusion for osteopenia? Would you describe your response to it, please? For several years now, I've noticed that my calcium and vitamin D levels continued to drop in spite of taking lots of calcium. The rheumy put me on Vit D 50000IU once a week earlier this summer. Recently my PCP put me on Vit D 50000IU twice/week. Does anyone understand reclast infusion or why the body is not absorbing the Ca or why the Vit D levels drop so low? LOTS of questions. Many thanks for enlightening me, ;-) Patty in a pleasantly cool Pineywoods of East Texas (mild enough for hubby to take the rat terriers squirrel hunting. )
Guest guest
Hi Mr. Grayhouse, I have the same problem, I think many of us have the same problem. It seems there is something involving the immune system and the other systems in the body not working right. I don't know specifically about reclast infusion, sorry. I am on and off the Vit. D every few months until the next blood test and I am on calcium constantly plus I have to inject myself every month with Vit. B. I am so tired of pills and shots. Guest guest
You do realize these infusion should not be taken by anyone who has the possibility of jaw issues or has had cancer. They have been known to destroy bones in the jaw. I would be more willing to take a daily or weekly pill for my bones than chance this. http://www.drugs.com/reclast.html http://www.reclast.com/ Celeste
Guest guest
Sometimes people don't absorb Vit D in the GI tract. Almost like a malabsorption thing. I had it the same thing. My Dr. took me off nexium. Acid is good... it digests your food. If you don't produce enough gastric enzymes then you overproduce the acid to compensate. Thus the heartburn. He then put me on gastrozyme... an enzyme. My gastric acid production decreased to normal after about 6 weeks. Those 6 weeks were rough with but he told me to be patient. The gastozyme then helped digest the food better and absor b the nutients. I had to take high doses of VIT D.. 50,000 units twice a week until my levels came up over a 3 month period, Then I went to 5,000 units a day with 20 minutes of sunlight per day. My bone density test then returned to normal after 14 months. thanks, Katy
Guest guest
Hi Kay, Thanks for your input. What you said makes a lot of sense, especially the malabsorption thought. I was leaning toward that idea when I noticed my levels kept going down. It's good that you advised patience because that's often my failing.
