Guest guest
Hello everyone, woke up last night with quite a nosebleed! Did I read somewhere that could be a side effect of methotrexate? or maybe just the dry heat in the house? Thanks, Jane

Guest guest
I'm not sure about that....my daughter is on MTX...she hasn't had any nosebleeds. But my son has them nightly (since he was 5 months old). Everything will be covered in blood (even his hair and ears). I wanted to let you know what we do to prevent them (put vaseline in his nose). Good luck. Amy Mother to (jra-poly) 3 years old Mother to Andy 2 years old Mother to Maddie 8 months Re: nosebleeds > From: Jitz45@... > > Hello everyone, woke up last night with quite a nosebleed! Guest guest
Hi Jane, How is doing? Have the nosebleeds continued or was it just a one-time thing? I hope he's feeling good these days. Are you still gradually lowering the prednisone dose? If so, how much is he taking now? Take care, Georgina > From: Jitz45@... > > Hello everyone, woke up last night with quite a nosebleed! Guest guest
Hi Georgina, Thanks for asking about . He did have another nosebleed (slight) the other night. We go the pedi rheumy Feb 14 I will ask him if he thinks its medicine related. Friday night he took his mtx and woke up kind of stiff in legs, first time in 5 months.. When my husband and I thought about it we felt it was because Friday night he ate a ton of chourice(which we hardly ever have) and I think he had so much grease in his stomach that he didn't absorb the prednisone or mtx...Even the Dr. said that could happen if they eat a greasy meal, so no more of that grease for while!!He felt pretty good today, no stiffness, .He is staying on 6 mg for a awhile,he definitley doesn't have the rosy cheeks he has on higher doses of pred, I kind of miss that....!I have to get used to him being thin and realize this is his normal weight...Next visit we will talk more about the growth issue since his systemic symptoms seem to be under controlHow is Josh doing?I hope ok... said thankyou for the birthday message!!! Take care, Jane.
Guest guest
Hi Jane, Very interesting story. I never really thought about that, that medicines might have a harder time getting absorbed, because of eating a greasy meal. It makes sense, though I know you'll think this is crazy but what, exactly, is chourice? I've never even heard of that food before?!? Please .... enlighten me Oh, also. Has there been any growth recently, since the decreased doses of prednisone? And did the doctor say anyhting about how long it might take for normal growth patterns to resume, once you got down to such a low dose? Stay well, Georgina Jitz45@... wrote: > Hi Georgina, Thanks for asking about . He did have another nosebleed > (slight) the other night. Guest guest
What is chourice the man asks????? oh boy It's a more spicy version of linguica, both of which are Portuguese sausage -- type things that also come in patties and franks. Also my favorite food. Tip for the grease is cooking in the microwave on paper towels....most of it comes out that way and it largely reduces the fat content. It's yummy
Guest guest
Hi, Thanks for explaining that Now I know why I'm not familiar with it. We don't eat red meat or pork. Just poultry and fish. So I rarely go towards that section at the grocery stores. We still make a lot of the same sorts of meals though, just substituting ground turkey if the recipe calls for ground beef. Thanks again, ~Georgina JenZ28@... wrote: > > From: JenZ28@... > > What is chourice the man asks????? oh boy It's a more spicy version of > linguica, both of which are Portuguese sausage -- type things that also come > in patties and franks. Guest guest
Amy! I my self might tend to wonder about the possbility of the injt.meth being the trigger to the, onset of these nose bleeds. I'm given to say yes, and of course I know you'll be in touch with the doctor first thing in the morning. And of course my prayers and thoughts are with you. Guest guest
Hi Amy, My daughter Abbie has frequent heavy nose bleeds. Her blood was checked for clotting factor and I think something else, but it was normal. She is also on Remicade, which I think your son is also on? MTX dose is 30 mg subq, 400 mg plaquenil, 400 mg celebrex, as well as allegra-d, flonase and afrin for sinus issues (as well as almost non-stop antibiotics). While she has always had nosebleeds, they greatly subsided as a little girl, only to come back with a massive force when the jra meds came on board. They have increased again with the sinus meds, which are due to infections caused by the Remicade. Abbie will have a ct scan done of her sinuses, and together with the rheumy, we are looking at possibly changing from Remicade to Enbrel or Humira. I would really have reservations, since the Remicade was a miracle worker with the prednisone, but she only experiences relief for about 10 days now. I don't know how much any of this will help the nosebleeds, but I continue to periodically bring it up, or else doctors looking up her nose will ask me about it. They never seem too concerned, and while some are rather heavy, they always stop. But some days she may have 3 or 4. If you find out anything let me know. Guest guest
Thank you Christy. Buzz did have to change to Enbrel in Feb. His doctor left our country and they would not continue the Remicade, with it being a procedure. He did do better on it, but Enbrel seems to be doing o.k. He just has a few flares, he wasn't having any on Remicade. Amy Re: nosebleeds Hi Amy,My daughter Abbie has frequent heavy nose bleeds. Guest guest
Hi My daug hter, Jackie 6 syst.poly, has nosebleeds when she is very tired and exhausted. Not if she is just exhausted after an active day at school but more like if she has been through a long travell and move or started school or went to hospital for three weeks. After bleeding it itches in the nose and when she itches back she ends up bleeding again. Just how it works for her. The bloodtests show nothing wrong. , mum to Jackie >From: gazelle34@... >Reply- > >Subject: Re: nosebleeds >Date: Sat, 31 May 2003 08:08:03 EDT > >Hi Amy, > >My daughter Abbie has frequent heavy nose bleeds. Guest guest
They could possibly. Methotrexate works quickly. Call the DR. My daughter had horrible nosebleed when her JRA was active and she was not on methotraxate. Good Luck
Guest guest
Hi Amy how is Buzz and the nosebleeds? I mailed my sister about whether she had experienced and nosebleeds with the Embrel and Meth she said no, she had never had nose bleeds, but that the doctor had took her off the Meth. So that isn't much help. Other than to conclude that the injt. meth. may well had brought on the severe nosebleeds. But I do hoep that they are under control now! Guest guest
Thanks Rusty, He is better today, no bleeds. He has been swimming at his grandparents pool all afternoon. He and his brother and cousins have had a blast today!!! Even with a little swollen knee, he has been running and swimming like nothing at all is wrong. I guess we will just wait and see Thur., when we have another shot. That's what they said to do. Guest guest
Hi Amy, Our kids are so resilient! They really know how to make haste when the sun shines. I'm happy that Buzz had such a fun day swimming and that he was able to enjoy the company of his brothers and cousins. Glad to hear that he's doing better. Sorry to hear about that nosebleed, though. Sounds like that was awful, taking so long to get it to stop. Figured I'd pipe in, just to let you know that Josh has only ever had one nosebleed in his lifetime. Neither of us can even remember the details of the incident, it was so many years ago, but he accidentally got hit with something and it started bleeding. It wasn't too bad though. Nothing like Buzz's experience. He's never had one that just started without a 'trauma' ... though he's been taking Methotrexate for 8 years now. So I'm not sure if it could be related or not. Might be a co-incidence ... or it might be something that affects just some people. I hope it doesn't happen again. And I hope you can get some answers, if it does. Take Care, Georgina Amy Luker wrote: Thanks Rusty, He is better today, no bleeds. He has been swimming at his grandparents pool all afternoon. He and his brother and cousins have had a blast today!!! I read where Josh wasn't feeling too well. I hope it is just a cold and nothing else going on. I will keep him in my prayers. Amy Re: nosebleeds Hi Amy how is Buzz and the nosebleeds?
