Hello,

My son (12) and I have both been on Tindamax (the cyst buster).  I think it's a

real doozy.  My son did not have a + Western Blot but was clinically

diagnosed.  After some treatment the dr put him on Tindamax.  Four days later

he got about a 2 " bullseye rash on his thigh.  We know he had no recent bite

and was probably due to the start of that drug.  He also had dark circles under

his eyes and, although he said he felt ok, he just didn't look good.  I'm

curious to see if he would test + now.

When I took Tindamax I herxed-- fatigue, weak leg feeling, anxiety, rapid heart

rate and just felt quite strange.  I don't remember how long it took me to

" feel better " but I know from other meds I have herxed for 3-5 days.

my 11 and 13 year olds have taken in daily for periods of time.  My older one

just got a PICC for Rocephin today (hard day all around -- PICC insertion was

not quite the no big deal event we thought.  My daughter has extreme pain

sensitivity...) so off Tindamax.  Dr H is our doctor in CA.

Re: Cysts:  Lyme comes in three forms: regular spirochete, blobby cell-wall

deficient and cyst.  Theregular one is the one that invades and mobilizes

throughout the body.  The cell wall deficient form is where the spirochete

sheds its cell wall and becomes basically a blob.  The antibodies can't

recognize it without a cell wall.  The cyst form is like a cocoon.  The

spirochete covers itself literally like a cocoon and goes into hibernation until

the threat (antibiotics etc.) is gone.  It can stay in cystic form for years. 

Some drugs (eg Tindamax) can attack the cystic form and get inside to attack the

spirochete inside.

Hope this explains a bit.

This is why it is so important to take drugs that attack all three forms of

Lyme.

To say nothing of the coinfections.

it seems to take so long for their bodies to recover i cant imagine giving it to

him again this w/end.... by the time he gets better i am gonna have to give it

to him again...

your cycle of once a month for a couple days sounds much better...

why are the side effects os bad is it just side effects that our bodies get used

to and would effect anyone that way or is it die off that is making him feel so

horrible?

Have you talked to the doctor about maybe changing meds or cutting

back? Sometimes when people can't tolerate taking one med they will

try a different one. The amount of herxing does not dictate how well

the med is working. I still have floaters, very common among Lymies.

My daughter didnt leave  a dark bedroom for over five weeks at one

time..........hang in there - make sure your LLMD knows about this........my

prayers are with you -

to - you do three day at the end of every month or week???

My daughter had cyst/nodules on her finger joints - shins - heal - before we

knew what they were we had about three of them removed - since treatment she has

none..........this is becides the cyst form of lyme bacteria.........never had

them tested for lyme but wish I did - sometimes you learn so late..........Diane

I think it is the die off.  When we start new aggressive antibiotics or go for

a different form of Lyme we all (in my family) seem to get kicked to the curb

but then we slowly get better with each cycle.

I agree.  It seems like after I'm knocked back, I come back up a little further

than how I was before.

My son took it daily, 250mg 3x day, for 6 wks.  We see Dr H in CA.

Have your son drink water w/ a slice of lemon in it.  This helps with the

herxing.  Also, see if he should be taking some kind of detox but it gets

complicated because it has to be taken away from his meds. 

I think others touched on the cyst info so I won't go into that. 

I'm so sorry for you and your son.  I try to tell my self that Lyme treatment

is like childbirth-- you have to go through the pain and horrible stuff but you

get through it and get your reward.

Variation if slice of lemon doesn't do the trick is to squeeze 1/2 lemon into

warm water, leave the whole peel in the water for 5 minutes, then drink the

water and eat the rind.  We see Dr. H in CA too and are profoundly grateful for

her sensible, knowledgeable care.

We usually do all the detox at lunch and the meds morning and night (well, we

have meds 5x/day, but that's life sometimes)

My 11 year old daughter started taking Tindamax 2 days/week about 2

months ago. She's additionally on Rifampin and Zithromax. She has

had neither adverse effects nor improvement. She's been on various

abx for 15 months now. She also sees Dr. . We're also following

an herbal protocol (Buhner).

I would get in touch with the office. They may have some suggestions

either in dosage or just explaining what is happening. I know it is

difficult to get through (always have to leave a message with the

service), but they will get back to you.

Variation if slice of lemon doesn't do the trick is to squeeze 1/2 lemon into

warm water, leave the whole peel in the water for 5 minutes, then drink the

water and eat the rind.  We see Dr. H in CA too and are profoundly grateful for

her sensible, knowledgeable care.

We usually do all the detox at lunch and the meds morning and night (well, we

have meds 5x/day, but that's life sometimes)

he got about a 2 " bullseye rash on his thigh.  We know he had no recent bite

and was probably due to the start of that drug.  He also had dark circles under

his eyes and, although he said he felt ok, he just didn't look good.  I'm

curious to see if he would test + now.

When I took Tindamax I herxed-- fatigue, weak leg feeling, anxiety, rapid heart

rate and just felt quite strange.  I don't remember how long it took me to

" feel better " but I know from other meds I have herxed for 3-5 days.

My 8 yr old sees Dr. as well and is on Zith and Rifampin. We also added

Metron, and now I have the school sending home notes saying he has taken a

dramatic turn for the worse. He has declined tremendously academically and

behaviorally, and cannot do the work suddenly.

I don't know what to do at this point either.

My 11 year old daughter started taking Tindamax 2 days/week about 2 

months ago. She's additionally  on Rifampin and Zithromax. She has 

had neither adverse effects nor improvement. She's been on various 

abx for 15 months now. She also sees Dr. . We're also following 

an herbal protocol (Buhner).

I would get in touch with the office. They may have some suggestions 

either in dosage or just explaining what is happening. I know it is 

difficult to get through (always have to leave a message with the 

service), but they will get back to you.

Three days at the end of each month, we usually start on Friday morning, takes a

tablet twice a day for three days.  She is taking additional atibiotics on a

daily basis.

She is taking other anitbiotics daily, just doing the Tindamax to treat the cyst

for three days a month.  She has been on antibiotics since Oct 2009.  Her

progress has been steady since starting treatment.  We were mis diagnosed for

almost a year before seeing an llmd last fall.  Her symptoms went from severe

joint pain to " brain fog " and total fatigue.  She is now back on the soccer

field playing travel soccer since March.  She still is frustrated with her

energy level and poor memory, however, we are moving in the right direction and

continue to make progress.  She sees Dr. W in Leesburg, Va.

That happened w/ my son also.... We told Dr. J and he switched up the meds a

little...we'll see how it goes.My son has never had poor grades or difficulty

paying attention until this relapse so I knew for sure it was due to lyme and

meds.Dr. J. understood and made some changes last week so I will see if school

improves or not.
