Human Rights Law Network is looking for a Programme Officer to work on the

HIV/AIDS and the Law Initiative*_

Location: Delhi

Closing date: 20th November 2010.

**Organization Profile**: _**Human Rights Law Network**_:

The Human Rights Law Network (HRLN), established in 1989, is a national

collective of lawyers and social activists dedicated to using the legal system

to advance human rights and access to justice for the poor and marginalized

individuals and communities in the country.

In addition to pro bono legal services and public interest litigation, HRLN

engages in out of court advocacy, conducts legal workshops, investigations,

publishes ‘know your rights’ material and participates in campaigns. In

collaboration with social movements and human rights and development

organizations, HRLN works with women, people affected by HIV, prisoners, dalits,

workers, children,

farmers, indigenous people, refugees, the homeless, religious minorities and

sexuality minorities, persons with disabilities, among others.

HRLN is functional in 26 states of India.

_**HIV/AIDS and the Law Initiative**_*: * Working within a human rights

framework to protect all those affected by HIV/AIDS, Human Rights Law Network

aims to create awareness against discrimination of affected people.

The lack of community awareness on this serious health concern has resulted in

the gross violation of human rights of the affected people. HRLN works with

people living with HIV/AIDS and various community stakeholders including the

CBOs, NGOs, SHGs and health care providers in order to prevent human rights

violations through the use of law and to help find redressal.

_**Scope and responsibility**__: _The programme officer’s terms of reference

entails working with the Advisor and the team at HRLN towards fulfilling their

mandate. The responsibilities will include:*

Work with the programme at the national level within the mandate of the unit. *

Assist and conduct awareness training programmes at the state level*

Represent the organization in various forum, *

Ensure timely and effective reporting of the programme to the

Programme Head. *

To encourage stakeholders to file Public Interest Litigation,

whenever necessary. *

Participate and conduct Legal Training

To organize multiple trainings with the stakeholders. *

To develop close contacts with positive networks and groups working on

HIV/AIDS and work closely with them.

*Qualifications:*

Primarily, as a part of the HIV/AIDS and the Law team the programme officer must

have a deep commitment for the cause and must have a good understanding of

rights. Other qualifications include: *

Degree in Social Work or Social Sciences or equivalent *

Good writing and communication skills in English *

Fluency in Hindi and/or other Indian languages will be an added

advantage. *

Willingness to travel domestically. *

A self-motivated, articulate person capable of working without

much supervision and managing multiple and competing priorities.

Fresh graduates, Women, Person living HIV or belonging to sexual Minorities are

also encouraged to apply.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience and

comparable to similar type of organization
