MAITRI is a Delhi-based humanitarian and developmental NGO established in 2005.

Maitri strengthens communities through individual and community empowerment with

advocacy, education, community-based program, development and networking. Maitri

draws its inspiration from the Sanskrit meanings of the word, which are

" loving-kindness " and " compassion. "

Maitri's commitment to promoting respect and dignity to vulnerable women,

expanded its mandate to include violence against women and domestic violence and

its health implications.

Project Samvedana aims at understanding the training, masculinity, social and

cultural issues in the context of domestic violence in the uniformed services

and their families and their vulnerability towards STI's, HIV/AIDS, TB

infections. The project also explores the patriarchal and traditional norms that

encourage violence at home, and focuses on the challenge that the aggressive

training of the uniformed personnel has on their attitudes and behaviours in

their home lives, understand the issues of health and how we can help reduce

violence and promote harmony in family life..

We propose to bring together the Uniformed Services Wives Collectives, Civil

Society, Government and UN Agencies, Lawyers Collectives, on one platform for a

National Consultation on Domestic Violence and its Public Health Implications
