hi, it took me at least 4 years to get referred to a rheumy. my gp thought all

of the pain was in my head. so i finally saw a rheumy, he said i have psa not

fibro. well he retired and now my new rheumy says it is fibro and not psa. so i

guess i am still trying to figure out what is wrong with me. sue

It took me 9 years to get a diagnosis and only because I had an awesome FNP.

Back story:

My psoriasis is so mild that even I forget I have it some time.

At age 17 I started having hip pain that was severe. It wasn't constant. I went

to my local doc who sent me to PT. I was referred to a sports medicine MD at my

college- an expert in his field. He and I got on rather poorly and he decided I

was " faking " because I was still being physically active. His view point was

that I would not be active if my pain was that severe. My view point was I was

only 18 once.

We finally parted ways and I got by with Advil and a prayer. At 21 I did some

practice lab work and found out I was HLA B27 positive (marker for arthritis).

I filed that in the back of my mind.

At 25 the pain was so debilitating that I finally went to my NP and told her

that I would be 100% compliant with everything (pills, PT, etc) if she would

also consider arthritis as a culprit. My HLA was positive (*surprise*) and my

sed rate was positive. Off to the rheumatologist at 26.

My pain is still poorly controlled but I've avoided the pill seeking label by

sticking pretty close to anti-inflammatory drugs rather than that opioid meds.

Actually I have a great regular doctor he is the one that recommended my

other doctors and I so far have had only one of them be a dud... I love my

rheumy, I love my others... So for me no...

Thanks. I think I finally got a good doctor.(finally) I haven't been in

treatment that long, so I can't really tell how it's going yet. At least my

rheumatologist doesn't accuse me of faking like my primary care doc does. I

think I'm firing him, anyway. My rheumatologist is the one who told my I have

PA, and what it even is. It's a relief to know now what it is, but a little

unnerving as well.
