I too am in the progression on symptoms chapter of my life with PA. I wanted to

vent earlier today, but I stopped myself, then later decided I needed to vent.

Thanks for sharing your story.

I have been in pain for around a month. I have had PA since 1999 with a few

years in remission due to surgery-joint replacements.

Anyhow I also wonder what the heck is going on with my body as well. My

shoulder began to hurt, my left ring finger swelled up. A few weeks later my

right hand started hurting and then my 3 toe on the right side flared up. Now

my knees hurt and its difficult getting up in the morning.

I went to see my Rheumy on Monday and had x-rays done on my hands, feet, and

shoulder. They showed that I had progressed deterioration in the left hand and

wrist, and right wrist had some deterioration. Thankfully the right fingers are

all okay - they don't feel ok.

For me, we are going to try the Enbrel as she finds that she has a better rate

of relief quickly then Methotrexate. However I have to wait for the Insurance

approval. For now I am on prednisone and some Anti-inflammatory drug that I

can't remember the name of right now.

Anyhow the Rheumy also found a lump on my throat (Thyroid). So I am awaiting

Ultra-sound results on that.

I am feeling a little overwhelmed by pain, as I hear your story, it makes me

realize that I am not (sadly) alone. Although we may not have the same pain in

each area - we definitely feel the same kind of pain.

Thankfully I can I am feeling well enough to write this. My pain is so severe

in the morning and the evenings that I am so thankful for the mid-mornings and

afternoon-to early evening.

I am thankful to you for writing your diary because I think it helps you and us

all.

Laurie, it certainly sounds familiar. The back pain you've had since

24 could have been PA all along, by the way. I had knee pain since

15 (that's 40 years!) and it went completely away when I got treated

for PA. It's common to get better during pregnancy - your immune

system slows down then. It's also common to flare after giving

birth. If you have PA, I would bet the trigger was the long hours

and stress you were under rather than the drugs you were taking.

That's what triggered my huge flare that earned me the diagnosis.

Is that the Niko Niko in Houston on Montrose that you mention? If

so, my daughter lives a few blocks away and we eat there whenever we

visit her!

By the way, you might have better luck with Aleve. It's the same as

Naproxen, just a lower dose. I can look up in my notes how many

Aleves you can take at one time if you are interested.

I can feel your pain and frustration as if if was my own and I have

walked in your footsteps, as probably others on this support group

site have also. I wish I could reach out and give everyone a gentle

healing hug, a magic wand to fix what's gone wrong with our bodies.

I WANT MY LIFE BACK and I can't tell you how many others feel the same

way. There seems no rhyme or reason where any of mine came from

either. No one in the family ever talked about it. for nearly 6

months, no one I talked to knew what it was on my elbows or what was

causing one elbow to be red, swollen, hot, and looking like blood

poisoning. Suddenly, I was dx with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis.

Nothing was going to stop me dead in my tracks! I took the meds,

worked with OTC and supps, massage, etc, but was not going to stop

pursuing my dreams -- at least not at first. But it finally got me

too. The final straw was strep a and sepsis with rhabdomyolysis -- it

very nearly killed me -- everything but closing the coffin -- I was

there. It's real. This time, it forced me to start over w/everything.

The day I was dx with PA, I kept researching on the computer trying to

figure out what this meant. I found pictures of hands -- what PA had

done to a person's hands. It scared me so badly that I closed the site

and decided I did not want to know anything more. Too many dreams. Too

many things to accomplish in this second half of my life. No time for

PA. It has taken over my body and my life now.

I use Skelaxin, Ibuprofen, and Neurontin as my primary " cocktail " .

Fentanyl patch per 48 hrs as primary pain relief. Lidoderm patches and

tramadol for breakthrough pain. ANd so many other tricks and comfort

-- in the previous two messages to other newbies today. Please feel

free to email me if you have questions or need to talk. I wish I had

found something like this in the beginning. Sometimes I wonder if I

had had the right stuff to attack it earlier, would my body be

different now?? It is just as destructive as RA so pay attn before

it's too late!! Sometimes, I think that it is really more painful by

far than RA.

I don't know about Adderall potentially playing any part in your

symptoms, but it sounds as though you may have SOME sort of autoimmune

arthritis, and definitely should see a rheumatologist as soon as

possible.

You should probably also see an allergist or pulmonologist and get your

asthma and allergies under better control. Asthma and allergies are due

to an overactive immune system, just as the autoimmune arthritis is.

The underlying problem with asthma is that even when you don't feel

short of breath enough to use your rescue inhaler (albuterol), you

still have a chronic underlying low level of inflammation in your

lungs. This is why the prednisone helps, but being on oral prednisone

long term is NOT good for you. Ideally you should be on some sort of

INHALED steroid DAILY, even when you feel good, in order to control

your symptoms so that you don't have to use your rescue inhaler too

much. You also may need to take a daily antileukotriene to fight

allergies/inflammation such as Singular, and possibly a daily

antihistamine such as Zyrtec, or a daily steroid nasal spray such as

Nasonex. If you're using the albuterol more than twice a week, your

asthma is NOT under very good control at all, and a specialist should

revamp your current respiratory regimen, so that you don't HAVE to be

on " continuous prednisone " .

You speak of taking thyroid medication, and it is NOT at all uncommon

for a person who has an autoimmune condition such as thyroid issues to

have OTHER autoimmune conditions such as arthritis as well. The red

splotches you describe over your swollen and painful joints MAY be a

condition called erythema nodosum, which is fairly typical in some

autoimmune arthritis conditions such as RA (rheumatoid arthritis). The

anti-inflammatories such as Ibuprofen help with the pain due to the

inflammation but do NOT stop the joint deterioration that is occurring,

so seeing a rheumatologist as soon as possible is best, in order to

start the appropriately prescribed disease-modifying agent drugs.

Cheryl: you mention being on a lot of meds to deal with pain but nothing to

deal with the damage caused by PA. Did you try them earlier and that's what led

to the " near death " experience? Given the extent of your pain, I'd hope that

there would be some drug out there you could take that would actually stop the

progression of the disease.

I'm hoping you'll be willing to answer a question about the progession of this

situation.? Anybody else, feel free to post too!

If I remember right you had birdmites and springtails? And seed-like things? Did

you notice a progression from outside on the skin to inside? ( eyes, nose,

throat, lungs, privates) Did you have outer skin bites the whole duration?

The reason I'm asking is that my son has no outer bites right now. The ONLY

thing he is doing is taking Neem Leaf capsules - 4 2x/day. He has been doing

this for approximately 2 months. He has been infected since late February. When

he started taking the Neem Leaf in early June, he had RAPIDLY spreading bites on

his ankles and lower legs. They seem to have subsided now.

However, he came over to my house the other day. I had not seen him in two

weeks. We were hanging out in the kitchen together and I began to feel extremely

creepy crawly - I felt like my eyes, nose, and face were being attacked by

invisible moving hairs. Then I got bit and continued to get bit for a few hours

( about 8-10 new bites. I had only been getting 1 or 2 bites/day at most before

this) My son left after a half an hour.

I did not get any sleep that night or the next. It was horrible. I still feel

like I have wispy hair-like bugs in my nose and eyes, which I have had before

but not this bad. Throat was real sore the next day too and very depressed in my

soul

I'm trying to understand what happened?? Could my son be carrying the bugs and

not know it? I called him the day after he was here and asked him if he ever

felt crawly things in his eyes or his nose? He said no. He did say that even

though he had no external bites, he still had a few itchy spots on his skin and

he still feels like he is getting bit occasionally but when he looks there is

nothing there. Previously, he had marked red very visible lesions.

Can anybody help me understand this??

My eyes and face are still crawling. Will try the boric acid eye wash Monday

when our local drugstore reopens. I;'ve been rinsing them in salt water and

using a netti pot. It helps some. Will let you know how the boric acid works.

Rose,This may not apply to your situation, but the creepy crawlies are not mature, adult mites.  They are nymphs, or baby mites.  Their mouths are not large enough to pierce your skin.  However, they are drawn to you by the same chemicals that attract their parents.  Although I know nothing about neem leaf capsules, and although I doubt that the blood conentrations of the actie chemical in neem are great enough to effect mite metamorphosisThere is the possibility that immature mites breeding on a different supply of blood ie bird or mouse, were transmitted to you by your son.The sensations may be from an allergy that your body has.More likely, it is a psychological reaction.From: rose_novalis <rosenovalis@...>Subject: Re: Progression of Symptomsbird mites Date: Saturday, July 25, 2009, 9:43 PM

According to science, springtails do not parasitize humans.It has been documented that in large infestations, they will end up crawling on you.They can sense bacteria, their food source, and while you may not have a lot on your skin, when times are rough, your skin does have bacteria, but I do not know about your eyes ( prolly much less IMO)You are most likely experiencing an allergic reaction.  At the height of my infestation, I felt mites in the nose and maybe eyes.This was not happening.  It was an immune reaction to their presence or biting.Try benadryl.  Although it did not stop the crawling sensation which was probably real, it did help the eyes and nose.From: rose_novalis <rosenovalis@...>Subject: Re: Progression of Symptomsbird mites Date: Saturday, July 25, 2009, 10:20 PM

Rose I looked like a crack head I had sores on my face neck scalp and arms

mostly. Yes I felt like they were in my eyes ears nose. I also have tested

western blot positive for lymes. It has been a long hard journey. I have had

herbs lotions vitamins antibiotics on and on. To be free of this is almost like

a dream. In fact I was so obsessed I have to find new direction now. The

progression was slow at first then my health continued to deteriorate and the

epidemic became stronger. The grains of sands I thought were eggs. The black

specks I thought to be nymphs. Sometimes I think I was the host and until I

eradicated them from me and built my immune system it would have continued. I

had respiratory problems big time I was diagnosed with COPD. They found spots on

my lungs to. My respiratory is now better. I am still paying off all the test

from my lyme so checking my health now is not possible. I imagine I have over

$20,000 in this writing. Listening to my body I am better than the last 5 years,

and my skin is CLEAR. No tags or moles even. I sit here writing this with not

even a quip or itch. Life is Good. That is why after years of membership here I

must post time and time again the benefits of the MMS bathes to get these things

off your skin. I think the bathes even help with the lyme bacteria on my skin.

If not for seeing the visible bugs I might think the skin problems were from the

lyme.

My MMS started slow at 2 drops, getting no reaction like I had read on the web I

thought this stuff is a fraud like everything else. So like an idiot I did 10

drops. WO I had the clean out of a life time, profuse diarrhea and laid in bed

chilled with fever and sick. Once the diarrhea was done it was over unlike the

flu. However the healing crisis took months, this is not an easy thing to get

through. I had a healing crisis like never before. I started in Nov and felt

I now use the cedarcide and oil my dogs down good they look like a wick when I

get done for a oil lamp. LOL I have found a small squirt bottle works better

than a spray bottle work int hair and skin.

Hi Marie,

I am curious about Rose's questions too but also about how often you

sprayed with orange guard, mms etc and did someone help you with this?

Right now I am so tired that I can hardly manage anything...just so very

exhausted with the battle--think I am at a very low point like you

described in part of your journey--very discouraged, depressed, tired of

fighting this, so many herx's, feel like I am spinning my wheels etc.

I wanted to thank you for hanging onto this site and continuing to help

others--it is greatly appreciated because it is so encouraging to hear

Yes I did it all on my own. I focused on the healing with the MMS first, and my

I meant a fogger helps so much not heals. LOL Early not enough coffee in me yet

Marie, I DID give up on the MMS bec it made me so very sick, though I had great purging with it while I could stand it. Willing to give it another shot after reading your post, thank you. The ring under each breast is also a huge hotspot for me. I think it is just like fish who hang around structure or in eddies so they don't get washed away: they hang up in the places where the flow of the water in the shower passes them by. That's my theory, anyway.

Ditto for me re the spots under the breast - mine are sort of burgundy redish, and just started after I'd been using BP for a while. I thought it might be a reaction to that - and maybe it is - stirring them up a bit in that area. I've started putting baby powder (any kind would do I guess) but I think keeping that area dry makes it uncomfortable for them.

Judy Mine were the same color almost reddish with a purplish color. The MMS

sprays cleared mine up. First I took the DMSO and MMS mix put under my breast

that took slime off and black specks purged big time. This was the only time I

used the DMSO for me but ti works. Then sprayed with MMS and bathed MMS until

healed. I think you said bathes were to hard for you so spray use more water is

it burns until your healed. Been healed since.

Judy Forgot to add this discoloration would occur anytime I could create an

aggravation and or purge, not thinking yours is a reaction to the BP rather a

purge and or aggravation. For me vinegar salt and epsom salt would cause this

discoloration too, never tried BP. The only time I cleared my breast totally was

with the DMSO and MMS mix rub on my skin. And slime came off my skin then there

were black specks come out, that was the last time I had a rash under my breast.

Of course I continued to spray with the MMS and bathe to heal the area.
