Dear Kathy,

So sorry to hear your little fellow has liver disease. The upside is children are more resilient. I do not know about University Hosp in Cleveland, but do know about Cleveland Clinic. Several others on the list (, Jerry, Debbie) are/have been treated there as well. Randy and I were treated there in Dec. 99. Randy has AIH and had a transplant at CCF

and I am his living liver donor. We were Surgery #2 in the living liver donor program. We have had nothing but the best of care and concern from the transplant team and if you do decide to seek a second opinion, I would

highly recommend that group. I have phone numbers and contact names if you would like them.

I hope your meeting goes well this Saturday and I know the drug regimen will perhaps seem overwhelming in the beginning, but several people have had very positive results.

You will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Cheryl & Randy

Ronnie,

Did you have an immunization for this Type of TB as a child? Does

the literature say that if you were immunized you still would get latent

TB? This obviously is the treatable kind. So you may have gotten long

ago from anyplace, like an airplane etc. It has been in your body a long

time and then it goes in to active mode due to the effects of Enbrel.

But I am just curious if immunization protects at all in most situations

when on Enbrel? A third of the world has TB of some kind. I know of a

child in my area sometime ago that had tested positive but was not

active. They said it can become active in 30 years.

Anyway I hope your strength stays now that your feeling better without

further aggravation from treatment.

For what it's worth, when I was on the Board of Directors of the American Lung

Association of Chicago at least fifteen years ago, there was much discussion

among the physicians (some of the top pulmonologists in the City) about the

resurgence of TB as a health concern. For many years, it was virtually

non-existent but in Chicago, ALA was alarmed about the increasing number of

cases they were seeing - and the fact that this resurgence of TB wasn't

generally wasn't yet on the radar screen of many public health officials. So,

so while it's not so contagious that you can just pick it up anywhere, it is

more likely that one can get it now than at any time in decades.
