Hi

I have never responded, but I want to tell u I am very sucessful with

remicade, after trying enbrel. They give me an antihistmine and I dose thru the

iv. I also take gamma gobulin Iv every 3 weeks to build up my sytem. Get a

good book to listen to, or my doctor has a tv in the room, and I dose!! Use the

time as a quiet time!! Think positive!.

Just love my compromised immmune system! After being ill with

something undiagnoseable for a MONTH (low grade fevers, etc), I finally

came down with bronchitis and ended up in the ER last Saturday. After

prednisone and several other drugs, and a trip back to my primary, I

finally have a nebulizer for at home to get my lungs to open up so I

can at least cough them out.

I don't have asthma, and have never had bronchitis or pneumonia. I

feel weak as a kitten, and my husband has had to take a week off work

to take care of me AND the kids. The dr said I must try and avoid

getting sick for 3 weeks, gave me my flu shot, and sent me home. Now I

just recover!

When I am recovered, my rheumy is going to start Remicade... after 5

yrs on Enbrel, it's just not cutting it anymore. I'm TERRIFIED of the

Remicade... nothing gives me more stress than I.V.'s... including

surgery, dental work, having a car accident... I'm going to have to get

Valium or something to cope. <sigh>

Marietta, I was the same way. I don't love it, but I get through it (even

after last months disaster of getting stuck 5 times, I'm going back

tomorrow!). I've tried to make it as pleasant for myself as

possible...sometimes I nap

(wrapped up in the Remicade blankie), other times I let myself read the

trashy mags in the office....I bring a nice coffee or treat too. The good news

is that it goes pretty quick after the first time...I'm now down to 90

minutes.

A few things that will make your life easier...drink a lot of fluids the day

before and morning of...well hydrated veins make the infusion more

comfortable. Also, ask them to put a heating pad on the vein before the first

stick,

and ask for a smaller gage needle. All of this will help:-) And if they

have to take any blood, ask them to do it from the IV before the Remicade

starts, this way you get less sticks over the long run.

When I first got sick (about 5 years ago), I had to have a test where I was

hooked up to an IV for 4 hours and I made my mom fly in (from Baltimore to

Orlando) because I couldn't handle it. So I've come a long way and I know you

will too - if the Remicade works for you, you will tolerate it:-)

Thanks so much !! Your words mean a lot, and lots of great

info! I'm calling this morning to check on the status of the

Remicade setup, and hopefully make the appt. for my 1st infusion.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one with I.V. phobia. Blood draws,

shots, no problems. I.V.'s, UGH!
