Guest guest
Dear FORUM. [Editors note: The Guyana National AIDS Committee recently released a booklet on Dengue & HIV Coinfection. This announcement indicate that since there is no studies on the implications of Dengue & HIV Coinfection, there is an urgent need for such studies] FOR DISTRIBUTION: DENGUE FEVER & HIV According to the Caribbean Epidemiology Centre (CAREC) Dengue Fever is now endemic in the Caribbean . Many dengue fever outbreaks have been documented in the Region. With respect to Management of the Patient with Dengue Fever and HIV Infection CAREC advises that close monitoring is warranted for any complications among HIV-infected individuals who contract dengue. Given the paucity of data on this topic, CAREC also advises that Caribbean clinicians “must document a history of dengue infection among HIV-infected patients, as well as any observed unusual or unexplained clinical manifestations or adverse effects of medications used to treat HIV and HIV-related conditions among persons co-infected with HIV and dengue.†The National AIDS Committee recently released an awareness/action leaflet mainly for persons living with HIV and AIDS and treatment/care providers (see attached).
