Guest guest
For several years, I have had bouts of thick mucous. No sinus infection, just stopped up nose, etc. I use the salt water syringe daily and that helps a lot. This summer I ruptured an eardrum because I was unable to clear my Eustachian tube. It is now healed, but I am still suffering with the mucous. An Ears, Nose, and Throat (ENT) doctor has me on Atrovent spray and a daily tablet of Singulair. So far, (ten days) it has not done much. He does not seem to have a clue WHY I have this problem. CT scan showed nothing wrong. Has anyone else out there experienced a lot of nasal congestion, and I some how think it might be impacted by the biologics. Any suggestions? As always, a big thanks. in Poulsbo, WA. Guest guest
I've had nasal congestion for years - and terrible sinus headaches - all the result of bad ear infections when I was a child. When an allergist finally did a CT scan of my sinuses, he found that they were terrible scarred; but the right mix of anti-histamine/decongestant coupled with the right steroidal nasal spray did the job for me. Now I'm clear as a bell and even on Enbrel (which can cause sinus headaches) I've not had a problem. Different meds work for different people. It does take normally 4-5 days for them to clear up your nasal passages so if what you're taking doesn't offer you relief soon, I'd ask the doc to try something else. I've had to switch nasal sprays on occasion because after a time (we're talking several years, maybe) the one I was on no longer worked. Make sure that the pill you take is BOTH an anti-histamine and a decongestant. (Many are not.) Makes a world of difference. I had to ask my doc to prescribe the one with the decongestant (figured it out myself) after just the anti-histamine didn't work. Same brand - just with that added ingredient. Guest guest
Hi, I too have had similar problems. One of the things that I learned was that Singulair did not work, BUT Accolate, which is also a leukotrein inhibitor like Singular, works well. Please keep us posted if this or other things work. Guest guest
Hi and all others!! I too have the diagnosis of PA (among others)and chronic sinus problems. I tend to think it is the disease causing it because I had the sinus problems years before I was on any biologics or meds of any kind from the Rheumy. As Tiny Tim once said " God bless us one and all " Love to everyone!! in Ga.
