Just wondering if any of you have any experience with Plaquenil for Lyme?

I took plaquenil for over 10 months. I didn't have any side effects from it. I

felt it helped my arthritis type pain. My Dr. said to keep an eye out for

numbness in your extremities and to have a special eye test done periodically.

I had my eyes tested and everything was fine. My children have never taken it

though, in case you are asking about pediatrics.

My daughter has been on plaquenil for almost 7 years. It helps the Lyme

arthritis and the few times she has tried going off it, the arthritis

type pain comes back with a vengence. She has the visual field eye tests

every 6-8 months but abnormalities are pretty rare I understand. One of

her doctors said that new guidelines for how much you can take over your

lifetime have changed, and that new ones should be coming out in the

coming year. But we have not seen them yet. The study says that after a

cumulative total (that would equal 7 years at 200 mg two times a day)

eye problems increase. But when we asked her other two docs they said

that they have never had issues with the many many patients they have on

placquinil long term. Being that she is at the maximum if we believe

this study, I am concerned and hope she can soon go off of it.

It really did make a difference for her and is supposed to help

antibiotic resistant cases of Lyme and also helps antibiotics to cross

the blood brain barrier.

good luck to you,

Z

My daughter was on Plaquenil for a few months. We needed to take her

off of it because of severe stomach pains.

She is now on Tindamax, and tolerates it well after some initial

adjustment time. Over the last year, our LLMD has begun to prefer

Tindamax because he feels that it is more effective in the long run.
