Hi ,

From what I understand ..one can be in a medication remission (taking

meds. and feeling fair..no fevers etc.) or a non med remission.

Hi all,

I'm always confused about this...are you considered to be in remission if

you're still on medication, but your symptoms are better? or is remisson

where

you still might have some minor symptoms, but you don't need the medication

anymore? Thanks!

,

I posted an article on JRA to the group. It may answer some of your

questions.

Think of AOSD in the form of Systemic JRA, of course there are other factors

also.... good article.

Joanna - I sure hope you are in remission! That would be wonderful.

I am beginning to be hopeful again that I might actually go into

remission, too. I'm doing better and if this improvement continues,

I'm going to ask my rheumy if we can try stretching my Humira to 10

days (I'm currently injecting every 7 days.) If she allows it and if

I don't get any worse over a period of several months, I'm going to

suggest we try going to every 14 days, which is the normal dose for

Humira.

I would not suggest just stopping the Enbrel, but rather ask your

rheumy about stretching out the period between injections. I think

that would be less likely to cause a rebound. Then, if you begin to

have symptoms again, you will know you are NOT in remission and can

go back to your normal dose without (hopefully) having a full-blown,

major flare.

best regards,

Hi Joanna,

I would guess it depends on how you define " remission " .

I have had no flares in over 2 years, and am virtually pain free.

BUT, I still take 12.5 mg of MTX a week. Would I swell up and have

pain if I stopped? Not sure. So I'm in " remission " , but I'd say it

is a drug induced remission. In my mind, A " True " remission would be

one that allowed me to stop taking MTX. I have asked my rheumy about

this. He doesn't recommend it, but said I could wean myself off MTX

if I want to and see what happens. Though he did warn that MTX might

not be as effective if I need to restart or I might need to take

higher dosages.

So I'd say it depends on your definition. I'm ok with my drug induced

remission, because I doubt that a true remission without drugs is

possible.

Stay Well,

If you quit taking the Enbrel, the systems that you had before you

started taking the Enbrel can come back. You may not hurt right away,

but the inflammation and pain can return. Best, is to talk to your

arthritis specialist instead of a family doctor. I had this since

1994, and my family doctor couldn't treat me with the right

medication I had to see a specialist. There is a paper that comes with

your Enbrel injection that informs you on this medication and I

believe it has in there the systems will return as soon as the

medicine is out of your system. Good luck Debbie
