Guest guest
Allergy testing years ago revealed that I was allergic to wheat, but I thought food allergies just gave symptoms of sinus, skin or breathing problems. I had no idea it could be inflammatory. Then I went to The Bright Spot for Health in Wichita KS and they did much more extensive testing than is covered by my insurance which doesn't acknowledge " alternative " medicine. The results were that my body does not utilize Vit C very well, so I have to take much more than the average person. It is a natural anti-inflammatory, but I had been sort of avoiding it because I didn't want to boost an immune system that was already haywire. I also take lots of fish oil--the amount was determined by regular blood tests. I no longer take any supplements unless it is suggested by my doctor, based on blood or urine tests. That is how I got rid of sausage digits. I have not had one in three years since I started this program. I do still have P and some joint pain--but very mild. Doesn't anyone have suggestions for my fingernails that are curling under on the sides? Ks Di [ ] Re: nails > How did you find out wheat is a problem? Guest guest
I haven’t posted in a while but this got my attention. I have been on Enbrel over 5 years. Before Enbrel I tried just about every main stream and alternative treatment. I took supplements, I took Flagil, I even spent 11 months on antibiotic therapy. My PA mostly manifests itself in my hands. At one point I had 9 joints affected and was expected to lose the use of my hands within 3 months. Enbrel stopped the progression of the disease and I have been improving ever since. I was even in remission for a while no drugs at all for 1.5 years. When I started Enbrel I took two shots a week. Nowadays, I take a maintenance shot about every 2 weeks. The indicator for the severity of the disease is my fingernails. If they start to recede, I increase the frequency of my injections temporarily because of the flare. Over the years, all of my affected joints have healed except for 2 of the joints where I had had multiple cortisone shots which became fused. I am far from normal but much better. The point is, I would suggest that you try Enbrel for a couple of months and see if it arrests the problem with your hands. It may even put you into remission over time. I believe that the medical establishment has it backwards with respect to treatment of PA. I believe that they should prescribe Enbrel at the first sign of the disease. Unfortunately, most insurance companies require that you fail on 2 main stream treatments before they will pay for it. An understanding MD will get around that. Simply tell them that you cannot tolerate MTX and Sulfasalazine. I too was initially afraid of more aggressive treatment protocols and tried the holistic/natural route first. Then I tied the poisons. They didn’t work. I even tried the AP and fungicide quackery. They didn’t work The deteriorating nails and sausage digits are indicators of advancing disease and you are having cumulative bone and joint damage in places that you are not aware of. Consider Enbrel or another biologic drug. They work. The statistics prove it. It was a miracle for me and I probably would not be here without it. You have a better chance of it working if you take Enbrel early on after diagnosis and before years of continuous other treatment protocols. [ ] Re: nails > How did you find out wheat is a problem? Guest guest
I take 2,000 mg morning and evening for a total of 4,000 per day. I tried to cut it back at one point and saw an immediate deterioration in my nails. Ks di Re: [ ] Re: nails > HI, > HOW MUCH fish oil do you take? Guest guest
Hello, I don't take the fish oil pills for my nails, the MTX makes them hard as nails (sic) and they grow rediculously fast. I have never had to clip and file my nails before. They always were soft and tore easily. Also my hair grows so fast I cannot keep a decent cut for more than a week or two, then it's shaggy looking again. The bad side is, MTX also makes it fall out, so I have a much thinner head of hair than I've ever had. Guess that makes less to get in my eyes while I'm taking care of my flowers. God Bless, Janet in Ca
Guest guest
Redness - but more so - vague lines, pits and - sometimes the nail separates from the bed in areas. But it comes and goes. <<Does anyone have redness at the base of cuticles? My nails >>
Guest guest
hi, i had really bad nails when i first got sick, that was one of the ways i was diagnosed w/pa. i am sorry to say they did not get better until i started on medicine. when i started on neoral my fingernails slowly became normal. it wasn't until i started on Enbrel that my toenails got right. i think that like the rest of the symptoms, until your immune system gets some help to straighten out, your nails will continue to be messed up. my experience has been that i receive no relief from anything other than Enbrel or Humira, but i may be an exception. i am sure some do get relief from topical solutions. hopefully you will receive many responses. good luck. susan in ohio

Yellow nails can be a sign of yeast. Biotin deficiency can cause weak nails, and biotin is used by the body to control yeast. So since you are chelating, it appears you have a yeast issue going on, and a depletion of biotin. Try increasing the yeast protocol and add biotin.
