Guest guest
My daughter that is 12 years old is dealing with some depression and feels that we do not love her - I know that lyme and bart do nasty things to that part of the brain and allot of this is " normal " part of treatment....... I try to explain to my husband that this happens to us.......and that there is nothing I can do to fix this right now.....it is all part of the process of getting better - he feels if she could just get up and go to school she would be all better........how many other kids have dealt with this and does the depression lift.........it has for me and my treatment so I do believe it will for her also. Thanks for your input if you have been through this with your child - any antidepressants help? thanks, Diane Lyme Disease News continually updated from thousands of sources around the net: http://www.topix.net/health/lyme-disease MedWorm: The latest items on: Lyme Disease http://tinyurl.com/23dgy8
Guest guest
I have the same problem with my daughter (9). My doctor told me that it could be puberty, not Lyme. I don’t know what to think. The doctor wants to give her some antidepressants, but I would prefer some alternative method. Guest guest
Hi Diane, You are definitely not alone in this. My 10 yo and 13 yo daughters both have had those feelings of depression and not feeling loved. My 13 yo seems worse and sometimes I wonder what's the Lyme/Bart and what's hormones? My 10 yo is finally seeing improvement and for the past 2 weeks it seems as though I have my little girl back. Whether it's Lyme or hormones or whatever it is I know lots of patience and love are in order. It's hard enough to be an adolescent much less one with a chronic illness! Guest guest
My daughter suffered from depression at the beginning BEFORE she was diagnosed and before treatment. We have used anti-depressants with success. She also sees a psychologist every now and then. I really did not want to have her on so many meds but it has made a difference.  We used to get notes about how much she hated herself and what a bad person she was. All of that has stopped. She smiles now:)  Our doc said all the anxiety/depression should/may go away once we get the lyme under control. One can only hope. Guest guest
Mildred, would you mind sharing which class of antidepressant you used? Guest guest
My son takes Zoloft but it's probably more for his anxiety. Has helped w/ his mild depression too. Guest guest
I do know that in some children the Lymes causes a lot of extra symptoms during puberty. Sometimes you just have to wait out the treatment since it takes so long to kill off all the bugs. When the depression goes away on it's own you'll know the treatment is working. I would be afraid that antidepressants would cause more problems chemically since it changes their epinephrin and serotonin, etc. But I know each child has to be treated individually and some of them can't tolerate the herxing or depression. I've read a lot of people have good results with them on here. But I know a lot of people that get worse with them too, and some get addicted to them so you must be very careful! good luck, Suzanne On Feb 26, 2011, at 4:34 PM, Helene Moreau wrote: > I have the same problem with my daughter (9). Guest guest
Right now my oldest is on celexa and trazadone (sp) at night.....this combo has really helped - No one really wants to give the younger one anything......but I think the trazadone for sleeping at night would be good as it still works as a antidepressant....also if you are having a panic attack it will bring them down.........calling my doc today and hope it will help - always problems with sleeping so we have been taking melatonin 5mg with vit b6 and that does the trick....but without it we cant sleep...... Anyways - thanks all for sharing all your ideas and what has helped or not helped........I know its better to stay away if you can but also I know that if we use them just for now untill we get though this horrid time of treatment I feel that is ok.......she did just start getting her period this year with the start of treatment so yes that is crazy also - and it seems when you have lyme and co that your period is horrid also - so we are on meds to control that also......you do what you have to do........... Before I found out we have lyme and bart I was one who didn't take anything.......and was getting sicker and sicker......now I say take what we have to take to get better - we are in hell right now and we will get better and we will get off everything at some point.....one day at a time... Love you all very much and pray for all of you parents that are ill and all the kids that are ill!!!! WE all deserve a pat on the back - " that a girl/boy to you all!!!!
