Guest guest
Yeah, I didn't mean to generalize, just had some bad experiences with some medical personnel which I had a hard time understanding....I think you're on the right track...not enough- too heavy work load, patients have to wait and feel neglected. Also, when people who don't have the training, have to look after patients, they might, what feel to us like ignore our complaints, but in reality they don't have the training to know how serious such a complaint could be. They will also not have the knowledge to spot a serious problem in its early stages. I guess that is one thing to take into consideration when choosing a hospital. How many RN's for how many patients. I saw one of the states call RN's, RPN's (Registered Professional Nurse) Now there's also RPN's which are Registered Practical Nurses. I believe this confuses the public and they don't know they are " cared " for by less educated people. But I guess that might be a topic for another news group. Bottom line is you have to make sure who's who and who's taking care of who. I also think going to ICU at least for the first night is not a bad idea and might compensate at least for the RN:patient ratio for *that* night.... Guest guest
Although my surgeon was great and the follow-up is just as good I can not say the same for my time in the hosp.. I was in from the day of surgery (Mon.) to the following Sunday. I was left in the same gown the entire time. Yes, that would be the one I went to surgery in. My room was never cleaned while I was there and no one helped me with my food trays other than a family member. On top of that, I had to ask for water to wash myself with. No help. What few nurses there were did a good job but too few of them and way too few CNA's. This was at a major hospital. Krysi

Guest guest
I had this problem, too. The room was never cleaned. (I was in twice, same problem.) I was bathed the first time I was in (for 5 days), but not the second (4 days). My main problem was that we need help to get to the toilet, or else use a bedpan the first few days. They really need to assign someone to do that. While I was in the second time, there was a mentally ill lady who kept calling, " Nurse! Nurse! " One of the days I really had to go, so I did the same, since it took half an hour or an hour if I put on the call button. And , my doctors were just as appalled at the service of their patients, they told off those in charge at the hospital. Guest guest
Marty, Sounds like your humor is taking you in the right direction atleast. As Jerry said, try not to worry too hard. I know easy for me to say. Definately a do as I ask not as I do - I tend to be a worry wart at times. I think Jerry might have told you too, cirhosis could be very mild and if they are controlling the 'cause' then you could go on forever with out it ever becoming life threatening. I will be praying for exactly that for you. Please let us know what the doc says when you talk to him. When do you see him? In the mean time, just keep using that sense of humor. Guest guest
Happy Happy Birthday to ! Love, guin Nurses Once again was in the hospital. The ER doc was great, but then he has dealt with several times. When the ER doc comes in and says "you look like hell" you know that you are staying. But anyway, when went up to the floor the "nurse" had a lot of questions for him. Such as "what do you take for meds." Having been through this several time I always have a print out in hand when he goes to the hospital. The "nurse" said he should know what he takes and when he takes and the mg. Well told her he has flat lined a couple times, and been through so many surgerys that he was half brain dead. This "nurse" was so intimidated that when I went in to see him Tues he was still carring on, but he did not say anything to the day nurses. Well off goes Mouth! The poor day shift could not appoligize enough for what this "nurse" had done.Any way, the day nurse said that had a lot of activity during the night on the monitor. When the Guidant Rep came in she stated that the unit was fine and did not record any activity. Then just what the Hello has been happening? She stopped talking to me at that stage. When I got home I made a call and asked if anyone was giving rewards for Guidant Reps dead or alive (Duff you should get a chuckle over that one). came home tonight with orders to see his cardio and primary Monday. He also needs to have several blood test done next week. Bottom line - something is wrong, but they have no idea where to go next. I think some person that did a read out should answer some questions, I have no faith in reps of any kind right now.But all in all was spoiled rotten, especially when they found out it was his birthday, cake and all...BestGail

Guest guest
Kam, I guess it is like any profession...but any nurse that is in the field and isn't motivated enough to go find a syringe big enough for a shot is just being lazy...and should find another profession, in my opinion. Fear of shot or nothing...you are very vulnerable in the period after surgery and the meds make you even more emotional...she may be psycho..but she sounds like she needs some empathy education. I remember the night in ICU when my regular nurse was busy so another nurse came to answer my call button. Even though my whole back was quite painful, and pretty much numb, I kept getting this feeling of pressure or pinching and the longer I laid there the worse it got. I could not roll or move without assistance. I thought a sheet or something had somehow twisted into a little ball. Anyway, the gal that came seemed kind of teed off...but straightened the sheets and when I told her that the pain was getting worse she said " Thats the best I can do " ...and left. My regular nurse showed up about 20 minutes later and asked why I was in tears...and then proceeded to run her hand carefully along the whole length of the underside of my back. She pulled out a syringe cap. She was furious when she heard what the other nurse had said....and went out and confronted her...I hope she is gone. Every other nurse from the day I walked into the hosptial to the day I left, with that one exception, was awesome....but there is probably one in every crowd. Glad you " told " on your's too. Guest guest
, Re: insurance I had tried a lot of things before going on Humira each progressively more expensive. Some of them worked for a time and provided relief. Call the doctor's nurse and don't let the receptionist decide. Tell her what is going on and see if he can change the Rx or get you in sooner. I recently tried to make an appointment through central booking and the date was January 2009. I talked to the office directly and have an appointment next month. After I had used some of the less expense meds the insurance was less of a problem. Your doctor needs to know what happened and perhaps you can change meds or he can change their mind. Nurses are there to help patients insist the office let them help. Carol Frick
