[ ] 10 days of abx after tick bite

Can anyone tell me if 10 days of antibiotic therapy immediately following a tick

removal would be considered adequate treatment by most LLD? A tick was removed

and treated this way over 2 years ago but I have concerns about some possible

symptoms.

Good Luck :)

My understanding is yes, if it was done right after the bite. On the other

hand, if you have symptoms, I'd recommend getting retested because even if it

might have been enough in theory, in practice it might not have done away with

the bugs completely.

Well, if I had insisted on another week of antibiotics, we may not have had to

live through the hell my daughter had to endure. Go for the max

Totally. My daughter was bitten and given nothing for a week, then grudgingly

given 10 days of abx, it was made clear, just to appease her crazy mom. Two

months later, rampant babesia, bartonella, lyme, erlichia. Grrr. Over a year

and thousands of dollars later, still sick and on abx, though finally off PICC

line.

If you have symptoms, I'd jump on it -- you wouldn't have symptoms two years

later if you were completely cured.

I always heard that a minimum of 30 days was given immediately after a

tick bite. I think even Infectious Disease doctors give 30 days.

That's if you can find one that will even treat it.

From what I understand, no. Get on this right away if you have any concerns.

Mine went undetected for over 30 yrs.

Cure Unknown (the book) will explain why 10 days is NOT enough time on abx....

bugs need to be killed when in the reproduction process and they reproduce much

slower than say strep throat so for strep throat a week on abx usually gets them

all but not the same with lyme

these bugs reproduce MUCH slower.

My son had the bulls eye and was diagnosed and treated immediately for 30 days

of abx it appeared to have been gone but later symptoms reappeared and he spent

a LONG time on abx w/ a children's lyme specialist until we finally found our

holistic DR. who was able to help him.

The point is this can be a very long and dark painful road not for everyone but

it CAN be so act fast.

I know it isn't enough very quickly but does no one else remember hearing that

if you go to the doctor the day of a tick bite you can get a course of strong

abx and it should stop the bug? Or was that just the IDSA I remembered? If it

was even a week later I heard it was too late for the short course.

Another great book that will explain this reproduction process and 10 days of

meds not being enough is " Everything you need to know about lyme disease "

So the original question was whether 10 days of Abx is enough immediately after

a tick bite.

IDSA says min 10 days, more standard is 21 days.

ILADS says minimum 1 month, with follow-up.

Thanks everyone for all the input. I pulled a tick off myself over 2 years ago

brought it to my family Dr. who took blood and sent the tick in to be tested it

was a " dog tick " he had me on a 10 day coarse of abx and I never really thought

much of it again. 2 years later my son has lyme disease and is now, after 6

months of treatment, no longer in a wheelchair but back to school almost full

time! Thank God!! My daughter has just started her Abx treatment and is also

doing okay so far. We never saw a tick bite or a rash on either of them!  But

they were both very sick in their own way! My symptoms are so vague and

inconsistent I sometimes think it could just be the stress of having two sick

kids. I will definitely question my kids Dr.at our next appointment and pay

better attention to my own symptoms now.
