Guest guest
Zoloft, seroquel and cymbalta have all helped various members of our family with Lyme and Bart/Babs related anxiety -- especially Zoloft (which also helps with OCD behavior I would add). My daughter is going through panics about being back in school -- a nice problem to be back so she is stressed, but not great that she is so stressed it seems to be making her sick again. Back on cymbalta for her. I hate how hard this is and it makes me crazy to see my children crying with " stress " that is all in their heads. I guess that is where stress always is, lol (wryly). The cause is a roving target, one day one class, one day another, one day social issues and the next her future. We can't control any of that, and the idea of getting out of her room into a fairly large middle school seems to be the root of it -- sort of " this is not where I thought I'd be in life in 8th grade... " Plus the fact that middle school just is not great for most people. I think it's been fairly benign for my older daughter , and younger too actually, but they stress anyway. Sigh. Since he has new teachers every year, he hears that one might be mean and then that's the class that he panics about and can't attend. He is on a 504 plan and the school has been VERY cooperative with him not attending class and doing his assignment in the library. It's tough because this year it's science so he is missing labs and learning out of a book instead. The school should work w/ you as long as you have a dr note stating the conditions that are causing problems for your child related to school. I'm wondering if anyone has ever tried therapy for panic attacks? Our dr is to the point of, let's try it to see if it works, otherwise we might have to put him on IV. Anyone have success w/ this kind of therapy? I will probably try therapy myself (Lyme, Bart & Babesia) because I have driving panic attacks. At this point, the brain might just need to be rewired and maybe it isn't even a symptom anymore. Just a thought. Elaine
Guest guest
There are some holistic things you can try. It's best to go to a Holistic doctor. But I know money is tight if you have Lymes. There is some information on google. But a few things my husband took for his panic attacks that was prescribed by our Holistic Doctor were.... Commonly used for panic attacks is 5- HTP - This he said would actually stop his attacks! He is a 180 pound man and he would take about 4 or 5 if he were having a full fledge attack. Sorry, I can't remember the mg I bought but I wrote down to take 50mg 3 times a day from the information I read. You can get it online or at a good vitamin store. I do know rehab centers use this for withdrawl also. There is lots of info on google about it. It basically replaces your dopamine that is too low that usually causes most panic attacks. But there's no telling what is causing your son's attacks. Maybe your doctor can help you with this. Most western docs don't know how to use these kinds of treatments so you might have to learn yourself. When you have " out of the norm " illnesses you have to sometimes figure it out on your own. A major change in diet. Get off all the chemicals and processed foods you can. Especially sugar, flour, yeast, diet stuff, fast food and all soda's. EFA's - Essential Fatty Acids, Antioxidents like CoQ 10, Amino Acids, a good multi-vitamin to cover what he may be deficient in. Melatonin to help you sleep and it is also used to help balance hormones that get off due to panic attacks. I would also get his hormones tested because Lymes can really wreck havoc on your hormones at any age and that can cause anxiety attacks! Like too much cortisol or hyperthyroid, etc. I read a research study that concluded that Lyme spirochetes favored the hypothalamus and caused kidney problems. So also test your kidney hormones that doctors forget about! low EPO (Erythropoietin) can cause your red blood cells to go low and affect bone marrow, Low Renin, Aldosterone and Angiotensin II can cause low blood pressure, high pulse, light headedness, dizziness, NO energy, etc. I know that because I had it! So go in to your doctor with possible CAUSES of what drives your specific symptoms and ask them to test certain things. They hate Dr. Google's like me but I'm as healthy as a horse now because of it. And a Lyme survivor to boot. It helps to pick the brain of bio-physiologists. Find one and ask them what causes this symptom and that. Ask your Lymes doctor, because Lymes causes other diseases. Usually when you treat the lymes those diseases will go away or get better. But sometimes some permanent damage occurs the longer you have chronic Lymes and your left with damage control that's different for everyone because Lymes is different for everyone. Guest guest
my daughters have been in therapy with an amazing psychiatrist for three years -- long before they were diagnosed. The best part is that he has been completely on the ILADS bandwagon with us. Natasha ________________________________ From: ecckwalk <ecckwalk@...> Sent: Tue, September 28, 2010 6:15:24 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Teen with Lyme and mental health Yes, it is VERY hard to see your teenager crying because of the stress of going to school and facing a class. This should have been over after the first day of kindergarten He has been on zoloft and buspirone (anti-anxiety) for much of this year and we've talked about putting him on lamictal (anti-seizure also used for mood). I am on this, and it does help somewhat, but I don't want to keep masking his symptoms and piling more mental health drugs on him. With that being said though, we have to do whatever we have to do to help him. Has your daughter ever tried therapy? The therapist I spoke w/ said it's hard to weed out if it's a symptom or result of being sick for so long but, either way, therapy should help w/ some coping tools. We are also stopping Rifampin to see if anxiety gets worse, even w/ him not going to class. This might help us determine if it's still a symptom of Bart or result. best wishes, Elaine > > Zoloft, seroquel and cymbalta have all helped various members of our family >with > > Lyme and Bart/Babs related anxiety -- especially Zoloft (which also helps with > OCD behavior I would add). > > My daughter is going through panics about being back in school -- a nice >problem > > to be back so she is stressed, but not great that she is so stressed it seems >to > > be making her sick again. Guest guest
Hi Elaine, My 10 yo daughter has Lyme and Bartonella as do I. We both suffer from panic attacks though hers is more severe. Just recently she was afraid to leave the house. Literally, pacing the floor, kicking and screaming - not willing to go anywhere! I began taking Gaba (which I purchase from an online Vitamin store) early in my treatment which I'm sure was very helpful. I began giving her a smaller dose - a sublingual and it is truly remarkable to difference in makes in her. It calms her down and helps her to at least listen to me and talk through what is making her afraid. Sometimes she just has a panic attack over nothing at all. The Gaba works so well I highly recommend it. * ´¨) ¸.• ´¸.•* ´¨)¸. •*¨) (¸.•´ (¸ ;. •´ Tricia ________________________________ From: ecckwalk <ecckwalk@...> Sent: Tue, September 28, 2010 7:49:56 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Teen with Lyme and mental health My 13 yr old son (Lyme & Bartonell), has panic attacks focused on a certain teacher. Guest guest
When my daughter would get panic attaches when she was younger she was put on a bach flower........drops that I put in her water - worked good........sending prayers.........having sick children is so hard........everyday is a new thing and emotion........our poor baby's!! Diane ________________________________ From: ecckwalk <ecckwalk@...> Sent: Wed, September 29, 2010 10:53:38 AM Subject: [ ] Re: Teen with Lyme and mental health  Thank you, Tricia. Along w/ the zoloft and buspirone, he started taking (about 3 wks ago) GABA 3xday for 750mg total. It is w/in a capsule of other herbs recommended by our dr. He is also taking drops of Psy-stabil, a homeopathic mix. He started these after the panic for this most recent class started, so I'm wondering if the panic now stems from the fear of another panic. Or, maybe these supplements just aren't helpful to him or take a while to take effect. What do you think? I wish you and your daughter well. This is so difficult on so many people! Guest guest
I'm so sorry that he is still suffering even with all of those meds/supplements. I just don't know. I remember personally having panic attacks afraid I was going to have another one. It could be that but I certainly wouldn't overlook anything! I'll keep you in my prayers. It is a very difficult thing to deal with. Guest guest
My daughter is having anxiety that is giving her increased pain, and probably vice versa. She sees a psychiatrist and he has put her on a low dose of Seroquel. We'll see if that helps the panic attacks and insomnia. Natasha ________________________________ From: ecckwalk <ecckwalk@...> Sent: Wed, September 29, 2010 8:23:49 PM Subject: [ ] Re: Teen with Lyme and mental health Thanks. Yes, I think most of it is the fear of the fear. I found something on line today about Cog Beh Therapy and it sounds pretty successful. I tried it when I was driving and I do think it might help after you've worked on it a few times. Don't know about for a kid though. Guest guest
My son took Seroquel for a couple of years, and it did help with sleeping issues and anxiety!
