It was to make sure she didn't have a tumor or other reason for her consant headache. Also, they may have been able to visualize actual Lyme lesions in her brain. It was both with and without contrast (an IV injecton of a " dye " so they can better visualize blood vessels). If your son is kind of mellow or just very calm and trusting, there should be no problem. If he has any anxiety or claustophobia, then you should prepare him or ask them for some advice for calming him down. He will have to lie very still for minutes at a time. Some technicians are really understanding and good about preparing and talking to patients, others are not. Also, you cannot hold his hand throughout his procedure. I would suggest he focus on something pleasant or try to sleep and aknowledge and reward his effort afterwards (whether he could do it or not). It does seem like a good idea to call the office beforehand to allay your worries... Good luck Aviva P.S. I just saw Dr J today at a conference (in New Haven) From: jchabot <jchabotsnet (DOT) net> Subject: [ ] MRI Date: Saturday, May 8, 2010, 11:03 AM  Have any of your children had an MRI ? The doctor is ordering one and I'm not quite sure what he expects to see. Would it show if there were cysts on the brain? It was just really strange because Dr. J's office called me up and told me to schedule an MRI and then took my son off the flagyl. Myabe the school contacted his office? When I had my meeting this week at the school, they said my son cannot even do simple addition or subtraction anymore ever since being on the med. He is 8.
