harold,

I know many of us have suffered from pain , I made the mistake of trying to

tough it out for years . don't do this. Find a doctor who will be reasonable and

addresses your pain issues, if necessary go to pain management clinic. a lot of

doctors refuse to give pain meds but you can be given some pain meds for relief

, pain patches also such as lidocaine patches ,. especially for back pain. we al

l know tha you can't d oanything if your back hurts , It is horrible to suffer

like that , There are drugs such as antidepressants that are used to help

relieve pain. cymbalta, lyricaandlavil. muscle relaxants may help . just be

carefuland only take as directed . also take natural supplements such as fish

oil[get enteric coated ones]the kirkland brand from costco is good . ask your

doctor about tramadol . This is a very helpful pain med and pretty safe to take

, It isn;t considered to be a narcotic but cnareleve pain like one , it is and

an, analgesic but you need a presciption for it . just be aware of mixing meds ,

be your own advocate and be safe . don't take them without asking questions and

don't take too many . Look them up and just be safe , '

One of my major problems is lower back pain and physical therapy has helped

tremendously, even though my rheumy said it wouldn't!. But you have to have a

good PT. They can diagnose exactly what's going on and work on the

muscles/tendons or whatever that are causing the problem.  It takes a little

time to get things back into proper alignment but it's worth it. Mine also has

given me exercises I can do at home to keep myself " well " . Joanna Hoelscher

<<a lot of doctors refuse to give pain meds>>

This fact is due to the ER hopping, MD shopping folks who abuse

narcotics/opiates and such, + the MD's are now being scrutinized for the

amount of controlled substance scripts they prescribe, putting their

practice/life at risk. It makes it very hard for those who are truly in

pain to find someone willing to hear your cry.

When I finally went to the Rheum, I was taking over 1000 mg (5 tabs) of

naproxen OTC 2 x day, and still having trouble walking, pulling up/opening

meds (I am an RN), holding objects, dropping things, just getting up out of

a chair...basic stuff.

He put me on enbrel, within 12 hours I noticed a difference in my pain. It

never really cleared up the plaque (guttate P and PA) so I finally went to a

Derm and am now on Humira...cleared me up totally (first time in 12 years)

no pain and I feel great! It took less than 4 months to have total

clearing...with no topicals either. I have no pain, no flu/sluggish

feeling...can ride my horse, exercise, walk without limping, hair loss from

scalp stopped, nails have cleared, shave my legs without bleeding, show my

forehead/ears, wear dark colors again, and work effectively with my assigned

patients!

This help, you just have to find it and that road is not easy sometimes. I

believe in teaching facilities, they are up-to-date on the most advanced

treatments, involved in research and usually have lots of specialist

congregated in one area.

This is just my opinion, and I drive over 50 miles to see my specialist,

one at my home town stated that it just looks bad..deal with it..comeback

when you have potential skin cancer...gave me a topical and prayed for

me...LOL

I pray that the biologics continue to work and might even put me in

remission. And all this came from 1 bought of strep throat, while on

maternity leave in l997!
