Question about Alinia and kids

I have a west coast doc from N. CA who recommends treating my 4 and 6

year old with Alinia. I also have a very famous (the most famous) east

coast doc who has never even heard of Alinia. Though I trust the one

who has been practicing longer (east coast), I don't know what to do

since maybe he is simply not on top of newer treatments since he is

older. But I also don't want to take any chances with my kids. Also, I

am on Alinia and the first two weeks were hell and it is still pretty

awful. So that makes me worry to. My kids are each on antibiotics and

Mepron.

Anyone out there who has used Alinia for kids (mine are 4 and 6).

Also, insurance won't cover it. Anyone have any luck getting Alinia

covered by a PPS (blueshield)?

Hi Beth,

My son (then 11) and I have taken Alinia. From what I can tell, it's for

Babesia and maybe a cyst buster for Lyme. My son didn't have any herxing (but he

rarely does-- it's strange). My herxing was headaches, weird feelings, aches,

itchy. So, in our experience, it was fine. I understand your concerns. It's

always scary to take a new med, esp with such little ones. Sorry I wasn't much

help.
