Guest guest
Hi Leah, Tanner switched schools this year - not mid-year, but we're on year-round school and the break between " grades " is a short one. We switched schools because the new school is closer to our house and a couple of buddies from preschool days were going to be in this class. We made this decision before we figured out this autism thing! We left a GREAT teacher, but I thought in the long run, it would be better to foster possible friendships since he could only be with the teacher for two more years. The first month at the new school was HELL!!!! Tanner's usual good behavior went by the wayside....he was tipping over desks, running away, throwing his shoes, etc. etc. I was not thrilled with the new teacher, however, it was she who brought up " autism " and spurred me on to find out lots of information and this list! After about a month, Tanner was back to his well-behaved self. This isn't much advice, I know, but just to let you know we recently went through this too and have survived. Which would be less painful? To get all the changes over with at once (lots of pain, but over quickly) or tackle them one at a time (less pain, but looooooong duration)? I'd go for it. I don't think it would matter to Tanner if we switched him mid-year or at the end of the year - he'd have to have a period of adjustment no matter what. Guest guest
Leah, I have been thinking about this, and the pros and cons each way. I think I would opt to move my child now. Mainly because at the beginning of the school, everyone is new, and the teacher is dealing with all children getting adjusted. This way, all others are in a routine, and there will be more time for Ashton to receive individual attention. This is especailly since you said the current teacher is not a major loss to leave. We actually stayed in Cincinnati for a whole school year jsut so that Matt could finish the year with his great 1st grade teacher last year. My husband was in North Carolina, then Las Vegas for the entire school year, but we stayed. I considered staying one more year, as she was moving on to 2nd grade. Actually, if we stayed and she stayed in 1st, he would repeat 1st, much to the dismay of the principal. But I decided that I needed my husband and the kids needed their father, so we moved. I miss this teacher terribly, but I wouldn't have considered even a few weeks for anyone else! SOrry this is so dijointed. I do find that the cold spells we get here and bad weather cause me increased pain and after so many years without treatment I am in pain almost constantly. I hope once I start Humira that will change but I do find warm dry climates help arthritis Lori
