Guest guest
Hi All, I've been a lurker here for a long time - dx'd with PsA in '01 after a huge hip flare. It has been relapsing and remitting ever since, but generally very mild, until more recently, when I've had pretty constant pain in my feet, legs (swollen tendons), wrists and fingers. Until now a few months ago, I've been able to manage symptoms with Aleve - my rheum. (and I agree) doesn't want to go w/anything stronger until I need it. Lately, though, the Aleve hasn't been cutting it - I've had 4+ months of chronic pain . . . and have been getting ready to ask for new and different drugs to manage it. Here's why I'm writing today - a week ago I had a violent allergic reaction to some insect bites and I was prescribed doxycycline to prevent infection as they heal. After 4 days of being on 100 mg./twice a day, I was in complete remission from my PsA symptoms. Really, like a miracle. It feels so amazing to be pain-free! First I thought I must've had Lyme disease, but after some Googling yesterday, I see that sometimes doxy is used off-label for PsA. Does anyone have experience with this they'd share with me? After a long stint with chronic pain, this is SO welcome. I'm making an appt. w/the rheum. today (and will ask for a Lyme titer), but would love feedback re the PsA component before I see him. Thanks so much in advance!
