Guest guest
Ok is on MTX injectable. I thought that might be it but wanted to be sure. He was on the MTX pills but the Dr. said the injectable worked better and wanted to go ahead and use it so we switched a couple weeks ago. I asked him if he feels like it has helped any more but he just said he didn't think so that it was about the same. _________________________________________________________________ Create a Job Alert on MSN Careers and enter for a chance to win $1000! http://msn.careerbuilder.com/promo/kaday.htm?siteid=CBMSN_1K & sc_extcmp=JS_JASwee\ p_MSNHotm2

We are hoping it stops ASAP too. She's got such beautiful long blonde hair. I am afraid if it continues the best thing would be to cut it and, of course, she's not at all interested in that. Weird how she tolerated the med pretty well, but her side effect was the hair falling out and apparently, the headaches. Just hoping and praying that the next month, while it's working it's way out of her system, nothing rears it's ugly head. Take care. Guest guest
Just a thought , but is her prescription through Walgreens? And if so, are any in the area where she is heading? Last time went to CA it was easy for him to get his prescription filled out there. He took the bottle in, and they are all hooked up by computer so he got his MTX (pills) there. Same thing when my hubby forgot his meds when we were in Florida. You could call ahead and find out if the pharmacy has it in stock. It will save you the hassle of overnight and all. They said that they were out of it and it was a manufacturing delay. We are in Oregon, so I don't know if it is national or not. I just thought I would let everyone know. They tried another pharmacy, but they are all out until the end of July. n leaves tomorrow , so we are on the hunt for it now. We have enough until the end of July, but her trip extends until August, so I guess I could overnight her the stuff when it comes in. Guest guest
Tish what dosage of MTX are you taking, and are you also taking Folic Acid? I'm on 17.5 mg of MTX and take 1200 mgs of Folic Acid on the days that I don't take the MTX. Aside from being a little tired on the two days following my MTX dose, I really don't feel any side effects. And I am seeing improvement in my overall condition. I've been on the MTX for 3 months now. Diane Diane Neri

Welcome to the group. Snap! Well, almost. I am on MTX too but at 20mg. I also take Indomethacine but I am just about to change that for something else as I think it is finally beginning to go for my stomach. I have been on it for 17 years. The MTX doesn't make me feel sick. I was in the early days of taking it but that was because they added Ciclosporin to it and I'm certain it was that rather than the MTX. However, I have heard others say that it makes them sick. Glad to have you in the group and hope to hear more from you in the future. Good luck, PS: I guess its not a good idea to say snap when we all have problems with our bones! lol

Guest guest
I have had both, mostly the light headedness, my rheumatologist said it was possible but encouraged me to keep going with it as I am not on a therapeutic dosage yet. My GI doc recommended injectable MTX which I am going to talk about with my rheumy. I have Crohn's as well as PA which I understand is common as well. Guest guest
I take my MTX on Thursday night before bed (I am not working so Thursday works for me). That way I don't have too many side effects the next day besides feeling a little " green " for a few hours the next morning. By afternoon I am feeling normal...if normal is possible for us. LOL.  Sharon
Guest guest
Thanks Penny Had my 3 injection and still made me sick at my stomach and light headed. Don't know if its worth it or not. It does seem to help the arthritis a little. Hope your arthritis gets better mine seems to be getting worse it first started in my hands and the my left leg and now both elbows. I'm taking sulfazine and Ultram 50mg plus MTX and still have pain. I hope that the MTX would work. Hope it works for you. Take care
Guest guest
I hate MTX too. My doctor says I will get used to it. I hope it's pretty soon. I hate being sick and nausea from it. Take care
Guest guest
Nausea and light-headedness are common side effects for MTX. I took MTX for about a year. The first dose had me in bed for 3 days with flu- like symptoms. But my rheumy gave me lots of tips to help and it got better and after about 3 months I had no more problems. Here's what I did: Split the dose. Take half of it Friday morning and half of it Friday night. Take Zantac the day before and a couple of days after your dose. Or you can use the over-the-counter equivalent of Zantac. (Some other people here have had luck with Benadryl instead of Zantac.) Take folic acid. The doctor should have prescribed that along wih the MTX. Most of us take 1-5 mg per day, which is much much more than the common supplement dose for folic acid. He should have given you this as a prescription. I started at 1 mg, but when I reported the nausea and other side effects, she told me to take up to 3 mg. Some other people here have taken as much as 5 mg. Finally, part of the problem is that your body is still adjusting to the MTX. The side effects usually lessen over time no matter what you do. Your body adjusts and things settle down. But I sure appreciated having all those other tips that helped in the meantime. One of the things many people don't realize about PA is that it attacks the tendons and other connective tissue just as much as the joints. Your elbow problems are likely tendinitis. I've sure had that problem myself. Couldn't even cook because I couldn't lift the pots. And, yes, whatever helps the PA overall should help your elbow problem. best regards, sherry z
