Guest guest
Hi Glenda, It varies from person to person. If you are like me.... You will NEVER experience a side effect. I have been on MTX for over 6 years and I can't remember ever having a bad side effect. Of course, I DO have one side effect.... NO MORE PAIN!! Be cautious, know your body, but if you keep expecting to have a side effect, you are likely to fulfill your prophecy. Stay Well,
Guest guest
When I took MTX I noticed side effects the very first time. I was on the tablets and I threw up all night long. They switched me to the injections and they just made me feel like I had been hit by a truck for about a day or so after, but much better than the tablets. I also lost a lot of hair and got bad mouth ulcers, so make sure you are taking enough folic acid to try and avoid that as much as possible. I really liked MTX and would recommend it to anyone. I ended up being allergic to it about 12 weeks into my treatment. It gave me severe hives. The progress is slow, but when it starts to help... you really start to feel like a new person. If it really bothers you.... ask for another drug. They have several out that are way less dangerous. I know there is a Sulfa drug, and I take Plaqunil now. Plaqunil has been my life-saver. It helped my skin issues (the hives from MTX lasted more than 20 weeks), and has really helped my PsA. I also take a pain killer called Tramadol, and a 800 mg Advil up to 3 times a day for my day-to-day aches and pains. Good luck!
Guest guest
hello I have been a member for years but I don't write in much, but because I love God and his people so much,, decided to tell this now. 4 months ago, I woke up in ICU on life support with a ventilator where I had been for 2 weeks in a coma and had no memory of leaving my home in an ambulance getting to the hosp or anything else about the month of April.Docs had already told all of my family not to expect me to come back to them and when I finally came to, my family was planning my funeral. I am 57 years old and my 2 grandaughters would not have even remembered me as young as they are. The ER docs told my family that my Rheumy had just about killed me. He had me on so many drugs it was sickening and I trusted him and feel like such a stupid fool. Methotrexate, Fentnyl Patches, Methadone, just to name a few plus several more but my brain is still not in the best shape so I have to get hubby to help me name them all. The drugs had damaged all my major organs and I was so sick and still in such pain and only a great and mighty God could have possibly put me back together again. I hope and pray I ever walk again without a walker and can ever remember and speak correctly again. I have sung especially gospel music for over 20 or 30 years and now even my voice is messed up. The opinion is that my vocal chords were also damaged from the vent down my throat . I have not spoken normally since and singing is just out of the question.. I now sing like Joe Cocker.Believe it or not though, I praise God that I am still here.... ..I could have dealt with my dying but don't think my daughters would have done so well. We have had about a decade of sad times and they were not ready for this right now.. Everyone take care of your health, check on things and don't always believe everything a man in white tells you...after all, its your life not theirs. God bless and keep you.
