Guest guest
A subscriber recently asked " what is methotrexate . . . " Commonly abbreviated MTX, methotrexate has been used for decades to treat both psoriasis and arthritis. It was developed to battle cancer, but cancer patients take =much= higher doses of the drug than do people with arthritis. The subscriber went on to ask if it is a " bad thing to take for arthritis?, " the answer to which is: No, methotrexate is not a bad thing to take for arthritis. Hundreds of thousands of arthritis patients take it regularly without a problem. It does bother some people, however, and can cause liver damage in people who are already at risk. Pregnant women should not take MTX. Since your doctor will prescribe the medication for you, s/he will tell you about it. The articles at the links below can tell you much more than any one on the list can: http://www.psoriasis.org/netcommunity/sublearn03_severe_metho http://www.skinsite.com/info_methotrexate.htm RA
