Dear Ellana,

Shomon and others say if you have one auto immune condition, you are

more prone to developing others as well. Lupus is one of them. I have

Sjogren's disorder, whic is dry eyes and dry mouth and I have had it for

years. It came about at the same time of the hypo weight gain a decade ago.

symptoms, etc. and it dawn on me just now about something that happened to

me back in 2000. Let me try to explain and you tell me if it sounds like a

hypothyroid crash.

>

> It was late winter and I lived in MI. I had upwards to 5 dogs in the

kennel downstairs and 20+ in the kennel. Even with a live-in kennel girl, I

still had to care for them when I was home...unless I was ill or something.

>

> As I recall, I started feeling very poorly all of a sudden. It was a

struggle just to get out of bed each morning and shuffle my way to the

Lazy-Boy in the livingroom. But when I had to go downstairs to take care of

the dogs, the two small flights of stairs just about did me in. My whole

body ached. My muscles seems weak. Once I made it all the way or all the way

down, I was so short of breath I had to pause for a few minutes just to keep

going.

>

> I slept all the time. I barely ate. Going to the bathroom 20 feet from the

Lazy-Boy was a nightmare, and a few times I thought I'd not make it in time.

This went on for almost two MONTHS before I finally decided I had to get

better or die. There was no inbetween. I blamed all the meds my doctor was

prescribing me so I stopped everything one day and cried for two days

straight.

>

> Finally, about a week after I stopped medicating myself, I fired my

current physician and found a local D.O. She spent over two hours listening

to me and told me she wanted to get some blood work done and that I sounded

like someone who had Lupus. A week later I went back and she put me on

thyroid medication.

>

> To make this long story short, I was back to myself in no time but the

word 'Lupus' still has been worried. Did I 'crash'? Do these symptoms sound

like hypothyroid to you?

Well, now that I think about my life, I had an episode in '92, right after my

husband and I split. Almost same symptoms. That time, however, my doctor treated

me for Lyme Disease and I did get better. Lots alot of weight, too, which was

great!

Classic.

Lupus probably would not have subsided with thyroid meds, or at least

some symptoms would still be presenting.

Sounds like a good call by your DO.

Up to three. If you have one auto immune condition, you are at much

higher risk of getting a second and third. Beyond that, your risks are

the same as everyone else.

I though I only had one bottle, but we had two. It's a huge recall. I

heard more that this company has had a bunch of recalls. Kinda scary when

you see how many places they supply.
