Hello everyone, I'm new here and just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Keisha and I really need to lose some weight. I'm 5'2 and weighing in at 285 pounds. My goal for now is to lose 50 pounds by April with a final goal of weighing in at about 165. I'm 24 and married, originally from Michigan but residing in Germany. My husband is in the army and we have been stationed here since 2000. He's on a deployment in Kuwait right now for 6 months so I have no excuse to not be able to pull off some of this weight. I don't have any kids so I think my problem is a lack of motivation. You guys seem to be a tight knitted group so I hope to be apart of it. Well, just wanted to introduce myself but I'll be in touch definitely. **Keisha**To leave the list, send a blank email to: 100-plus-unsubscribe To contact the owners of this group, send an email to:100-plus-owner

Happy Birthday Jacqui!!

I'm only a patient, not a doctor. I had a laminectomy without

fusion 2 years ago on L3/L4. I was so stupid that I let myself

suffer years before I got help. The good news was that the

pain was 90% gone when I woke up from the surgery. The

other pain was due to having the muscles cut in my back. It

usually takes 4-6 weeks to recover from the lower back surgeries.

Advice: Make sure a Neurosurgeon does the surgery, take

your recovery slow, no matter if you feel really good one day,

go to physical therapy suggested by your doc and do what they

say, no more, no less.

Check out spineonline.com and spineuniverse.com and back.com

for more descriptions of your surgery.

You can adapt curves to BFL. Just make sure you hit 10's in

intensity level and do the cardio. Your carbs sound good just make

sure the portions are the size of your fist. Welcome - this is a

great board.

Hi Sunshine. Welcome aboard.

It's great that you've had so much success doing curves and that you

want to try the bfl lifestyle. As for the diet, you might want to

replace some of the bread and potatoes with fruit and whole grains

like barley, beans, and lentils. Portion control, the bane of my

existence, is really important too.

Hi Sunshine!

Congrats on committing to Curves. I've never been, but I've known people who

have and they have nothing but good things to say about it.

As for slow inches/weight loss, I started out very slow myself. I am also 5'

6 " , and started out at 159 lbs. It wasn't until about week 4-7 that inches

started to fly off. It sort of scared me a little how fast it was coming off.

I don't have the $$ for a new wardrobe! Maybe that's why I've been slacking on

the diet since then, who knows, but I sort of renewed my committment to myself

this morning and, although I'm in week 11 of my first challenge, I really can't

count the last 4 weeks, so I'm starting over -today!

Sorry - for the run-off there... Anyway - when I read that you want to lose

40-45 pounds in the next year, I was surprised. There is absolutely no way that

I would be able to weigh 130 lbs! I went through Army basic training and AIT

and at the end of that I felt the best I've ever felt in my entire life. I was

still 150 lbs and a juniors size 9. Are you small framed? If so then that is

probably a realistic goal for you. But the workout program with BFL builds

muscle, which does weigh more than fat, so as you'll see a lot in this board you

can't really rely on the scale for results in this program. Take your

measurements if you haven't already, and go by that.

Hope to see you around more!

I just finished my 2nd week of following the bfl diet. I love the

Hi :o)

Your right about the weight loss. I would love to be a size 8.

That's the size and weight (I need to stop relying on weight) that I

was after Army basic training and AIT (and met hubby). He would love

to see me in that shape again, so would I :o)

Ok, not so discouraged about the lack of weight and inches loss :o)

Thanks :o)

Your welcome!

BTW - I met my husband while in AIT, too! Neither of us are in any more,

though. We met at Ft. Ben on, IN.

The book talks about Yoplait as working. I don't remember what the exact

name is for it, but it's the stuff in the cups with the white and blue

background. The red and white is full fat, and the yellow background isn't

right and the white and purple isn't right. You're right. Dh is wrong.

Ah, that felt good. Your portion should be smaller as it should be the size

of your fist or the palm of your hand. Unless you have freakishly large

hands ;-) it'll be smaller. I spent the first challenge looking at my

freakishly small hands going " how will I ever survive? " Then I made the

leap of logic that perhaps my hands weren't freakishly small after all and

maybe that was why I was overweight. Doh!

Microgreens rock! Right now we have arugula, cress, brocolli and mustard

greening up. They pack a whallop in a salad or sandwich. Clover and

alfalfa were started a few days ago. I do not use dirt for the micros

greens. They do not seem to need it, although I do use baby blanket for

the above mentioned flavorful four. For some reason, I can not get the

brocolli to grow without it, but there is someone here to does great

with a jar and sprouting lid. Can't remember who. We do lots of lentils,

all the variety Sproutpeople sell and they can grow their little tails

in just about anything from colanders to regular sprouters. No info on

hydroponics, but in Arizona there is a natural seed source, I think it

is called native seed, that might be of some help to you. Check the

internet. I only use organic soil for the sunflower seeds which also

grow well on the scraps of the baby blanket, soil, vermiculite. Check

Sproutpeople.com website for lots of info. There is also a search engine

within the site to help you find the info you are looking for. Kudos to

Gil for his greaaaaaat site.

Have fun. Diane

Thanks Diane,

I've spent at least 1000 dollars on my gardening endeavors this week

and I haven't really added that closely. It might be more. So I need to

stay off the sites for awhile LOL!

Sorry , I do take Mtx, humira shots and other pain killers such as

darvocet, and Vicodin... But they have now taken me off the darvocets so I am

awaiting the new drug which is a name I don't remember but my doctor is

having to replace that one also since it does not work well with my other

meds...

Love and Peace

Always

Shaun and Barb
