Guest guest
Hello, I'm worried and looking for other experiences. My son has been on amoxicillin for 4 weeks now--two weeks left. But the doctor dosed it twice a day. Last night I read tons of online information and all the sites I found were dosing three times a day and I am completely worried now that the doctor messed up. I contacted him and he said twice is fine and don't worry. Well, I don't trust him (our regular ped. left and he was bit on vacation; we're not in a heavy lyme area so the doctor has no experience) and I am worried. I wondered what other parents who trust their doctors or whose doctors have lyme experience are being given--dosing two times or three times per day? le
Guest guest
From Dr. Burrascano's guidelines: *Amoxicillin- Adults: 1g q8h plus probenecid 500mg q8h; doses up to 6 grams daily are often needed Pregnancy: 1g q6h and adjust. Children: 50 mg/kg/day divided into q8h doses. Doing the math, a 44 lb child should take 1000mg per day. Dr. Burrascano says to divide it every 8 hours (three times a day). But I think two times a day is fine. Our LLMD told us that we can give our son his Ceftin twice a day instead of three times (but to give him the full day's dose). Its half life is 80 minutes. Amoxicillin's half life is 60 minutes. I also believe my wife and I took Amoxicillin twice a day, but that was a while ago and my memory is fussy. In any case, I think it is more important that he is getting the large daily dose than it is to divide it into two or three times a day. I hope that helps.
