A pharmaceutical representative, a friend of mine, told me to take powdered alum

and slowly, very slowly brown it in an iron skillet almost as if you were making

roux for gumbo. When it is lightly brown you can transfer it to a small bottle

and keep it for a long time. Now, oops, what you do with it.....you moisten a

cotton swab, dip it in the alum and put it on the cold sore. The sooner you do

this the less of a sore you will have. My ex used to have them all the time. We

kept this stuff in our medicine cabinet and used it at the first sign of a

blister. His father was a doctor, way back when they improvised. If it doesn't

work, you have only been out a couple of dollars and the time it took you to

make it. Let me know. Sherry

Hi Sherry,

I read in another blog that L-Lysine which is available in GNC helps a

lot in treating fever blisters/cold sores. It is just an amino acid

(amino acids are building blocks for protein and proteins are building

blocks for our body). So you can safely try this L-Lysine for fever

blisters and cold sores.

Yes I take Lysine and there is also a new Lysine ointment for cold sores. I

tend to get them when my immune system is maxed out. In my case the arthritis

and then if my allergies kick in.

I don't think body has ability to absorb amino acids through skin. If

you take internal, amino acids are stored for further use. Even if you

use ointment, I feel it is better to take internal too.
