Guest guest
Tony, I had a friend who was on metho for a lung condition for several months. I also have a friend who has AS and was on metho for months. If the doc would read the package insert he would see for himself that the manufacturer indicates nausea is a problem with the medication. One friend lost lots of weight on it(nausea and vomiting induced) and the other had to have injections so she could deal with the metho at all. Since it was originally used as a cancer medication and one of it's major chracteristics was that it caused nausea and vomiting, medical marijuana was sometimes used to precvent the excessive vomiting associated with it. I had a freidn who was prescribed the pills back in the late 70's and early 80's who fought cancer for 19 years so that is the source of my knowledge there. I honestly don't know where some of these docs get their information, especially the rheumys. One of them stood at the foot of the bed of a hospitalized friend with AS and told her that she was drug seeking and women don't get AS so she needed to get out of bed and go home. This doc was a woman in her 40's. She of all ppl ought to have known better since the information about women and AS has long been available to the public(at least the mid 80's from the AS organization), much less to the MDs who are rheumatology specialists. Sorry. I'm off of my soap box for now, but as you can tell these docs, especially one who teaches ought to look up some of this stuff. Go to www.medscape.com and look up methotrexate to see what is said about it there. It's a site for med types, but works for the rest of us also. I hope you can get your docs to listen to you. I have seen at least 3 VERY miserable friedns from the results of the use of this drug. The cancer patient had no other recourse, but the other 2 might have had. It's a judgment call for sure and while I have so far rejected the idea of metho for my AS, no one has offered it to me on a bad day either. I might let a snake bite me on some of the bad days if someone said it would make me better ( reference to those who have used honey bee stings for improvement of various diseases here) Sorry to any I might ahve offended. I am having a very angry day here--too many medical mess ups personally and for ppl I care about on the net to suit me.
Guest guest
Tony, you are taking a folic acid supplement, right? My doc prescribed the two together. Metho uses up the folic acid in your body and you have to add extra, cuts a lot of the side effects (at least it has for me.) Ben
Guest guest
--- In , " Herring " <countryms@p...> > many medical mess ups personally and for ppl I care about on the net to suit > me. No offence taken, thanxs for comprehending, i am taking folic acid but i wasnt told it was to stop the nausea, i got some stemtil, and some sleepers to get through the night, having an x-ray and getting Ultra sound results tommorow, i am feeling my body go through some pretty significant changes this week from first taking it. Im also on salazopyrin im not sure its really doing anything though. Considering what dmards do to the body wouldnt having two at the smae time be problematic? Im mostly dissappointed because i have new pain radiating from new joints and areas, whilst it maybe reducing others its inflaming new stuff, bugger!#$% I sometimes think my immune system doesnt like me very much, or that its a bit like a mutiny on board a sinking ship? Guest guest
I have been taking MTX (10mg) once a week for about 8 weeks. I haven't had too many side effects really. Extreme fatigue the day after is the main thing. But today I noticed a reddish, bruise-like raised area on the outside edge of my lip. Kind of where you would have a cold sore. I know that you can have mouth sores, but assumed they would be inside my mouth. Does anyone out there have any experience with anything like I have described? The MTX dose I am on is very low, but has helped my hands and I can close my fingers and make a fist which is a big improvement. Thanks for any information any of you may have.
