I'm too tired right now to search, however I remember hearing that according to

new laws (perhaps enacted last year?), pre-existing conditions can not be

counted against you when changing insurance.

At the very least it's worth looking into whether that is true or not. I

believe it's a federal law.

[ ] Need UHC insurance feedback ASAP

We are losing our group health insurance in the very near future, and are

seriously considering UHC/Golden Rule for a new policy because they have a

Guaranteed Issue / HIPAA compliant plan that cannot turn you down due to

pre-existing conditions. Well, my family has so many due to Lyme, we all 3 are

uninsurable unless we get one of the high deductible, guaranteed acceptance

policies (which are very expensive, but UHC's seems to be the cheapest).

I am wondering if anyone (specifically with individual, guaranteed issue /

HIPAA compliant UHC insurance would be most applicable) has had any problems

getting their oral antibiotics filled over and over again on a long-term basis?

How about any trouble with IV treatment coverage?

We live in TN, but UHC has a nationwide provider network, so thought you guys

would have some good feedback - whether you have had any UHC policy, individual

or group.

Any internal medical policies and/or limitation on the treatment of Lyme that

anyone has become aware of? i.e. like a max of 28-30 days worth of abx, oral or

IV, and then you're cut off " because you are cured " type situation...?

Any feedback on your experiences, good or bad, would be MOST APPRECIATED!

And/or any other suggestions for a good Guaranteed Issue/Acceptance insuranc

company would also be great.

If you prefer to email me privately about this, you can at

Thank you!

I think that as long as you were covered by an insurance company and you changed

insurance companies, the new company may ask for verification of the old

coverage.

Last year We tried to switch from group insurance to private. If I remember

correctly, as long as you prove previous coverage, and that the gap does not

exceed the specified time frame, you are eligible for coverage, BUT the

insurance companys will make the premiums sky-high and practically unattainable

for that reason.

Hi Christa,

We had United Healthcare and they only covered two months of IV

antibitoitcs. That was two years ago. My son was on seven months, so I had to

pay the five out-of-pocket. I appealed the decision, wrote tons of letters,

made phonecalls. The basis was that long-term antibiotics was not a proven

treatment for Lyme.

On the other hand, we did get coverage for our oral antibiotics. Found a few

loopholes .

Again, this was two years ago. So things could have changed. And I live in

NH; don't know what difference that makes.

It's like another job weeding out the insurance and health care issues. And

I know how daunting that is with sick kids.

Best of luck,
