Low Bone Density

Hi Everyone,

For several years my calcium levels have been on a downward trend right along

with the bone density tests which have shown Osteopenia for over ten years.

Recently the doctors began checking vitamin D levels which turned out to be low;

one round of 50,000units once a week didn't 'shock' the system to work so now

I'm taking it twice weekly plus a recent infusion of Remicade. On a scale of

30-100, my vitamin D level was 23 !!

I have been on prednisone long term twice -- once in the early '70s and recently

for 'microscopic colitis'. I get the impression from the group they attribute

bone loss to prednisone use. Can PA also account for it? At 69 y/o, I want to

protect myself from fractures.

I've had PS for over 50 years, PsA for about 30 years (undiagnosed symptoms much

longer) and fibromyalgia for 10 years. There are times the fibro seems to

interfere with my life the most. I'm currently taking Humira, Savella, Lipitor,

B complex & folic acid for hair loss, magnesium, potassium, calcium,

multi-vitamins, Norco, Flexeril (at night), Soma (1/2 tab 2-4X day), 50,000u

Vit. D twice weekly. Plus things for dry eyes, nose & mouth, etc. Too many

pill!!

I need to hear from others on this list who have experienced this problem of

bones becoming brittle and how it was treated.
